Jealousy, maybe? Concern?

Fatou blinked. “If the Boto Brothers see you, we will have to fight immediately. But if they open the door and see me—”

A murderous rage-filled growl escaped my lips.

Fatou raised her eyebrows. “Azar, what’s wrong?”

“You are all mine.”

Our eyes met.

She looked away. “This isn't about. . .us.”

“It is. Being with you has overshadowed experiences for past decades.”

“You’re an incubus. You’ve had a lot of women.”

“None were you and none will ever be.” I leaned down and kissed those soft lips, enjoying the way her tongue entered my mouth.

Will you ever understand how I feel?

Trembling, she pulled away.

I stifled a snarl and glared at her.

“I can’t have this discussion with you right now. I need to focus on getting the Boto Brothers.” She backed away from me. “No more kissing or touching until we get them.”

“Why not?”

“It makes me forget everything.”

I smiled.

She sighed. “Let’s go over my possible plan. I go to their yacht. I pretend I’m their package and get close enough to bite one. Then, you—”

“Absolutely not.” I guided her away from the ramp and into the shadows of a boat.

“Azar, if they see you, they may run or think something is off.” She held out her hands. “Am I wrong or right?”

I frowned.

“Hunting Demons has taught me one thing, when they're aroused, they are at their weakest moment.” She crossed her arms around those supple breasts. “I’m going to need to get close to them in order to arouse them.”

I laughed. “You won’t need to get close to them. They’ll be aroused once they breathe you in.”

“But, regardless, I get them aroused some way or other—”

“No. They’re not to touch you.” Power rippled under my skin in waves.

Fatou opened her mouth.

I forced myself to calm down.

“Why can’t they touch me, Azar? Are they that dangerous?”

“No. I am,” I said through clenched teeth. “And if they touch you, there will be nothing left to take to Adae.”

Her heartbeats increased, slamming against her chest. A shade of dark red tinted the tips of her pointy ears.

I’m making her nervous.

I exhaled and focused on soothing thoughts.

“The only reason the Boto Brothers are hard to catch is because they stay in a group. None of Adae’s scout sorcerers are powerful enough. They’re not you,” I admitted. “But, together, you and I can easily take them.”

“Are you sure?”

“I am.”

Her heartbeats calmed.

“There's no need for a diversion plan with them.” I led Fatou across the ramp and followed the scent. “Besides, I'm more worried about why their smell is off.”

We continued forward.

Finally, I tracked the scent to a large yacht that had seen better days, its grey paint peeled off in strips like scabs. The name “Endless Pleasure” was emblazoned across the hull in cursive. Even the letters appeared ragged. I could tell that they had once been gilded but was now tarnished to an almost unrecognizable green.

A metal ladder led up to this ship's deck.

I stopped us by it and sniffed the air. “Something is still off.”

Fatou turned my way. “What?”

“Now, I can't smell them.”

“Do you think they're cloaking themselves?”

“They don't have the power to do it.” I scanned the space. “The Boto Brothers also prefer the finer things in life. This raggedy boat doesn't make sense for them. They should be in a luxury vessel.”

Disappointment hit her eyes. “What do you think we should do?”

My mind raced with possibilities, but none promised a good outcome.

I wanted to turn around and rethink our plan, but I saw the desperation in Fatou's eyes. She desperately yearned to be reunited with her daughter.

The agony of losing my children throughout the years had ripped me apart. I would not let Fatou suffer that kind of pain.

Against all sanity, I listened to my heart and climbed the ladder. “Stay close to me.”

I pulled myself up higher and higher, until I reached the top. Then, I climbed aboard the vessel.

Fatou arrived seconds after me.

I pointed in the direction of the vessel's bridge. “We should check there first.”

She nodded.

We quietly headed that way and entered.

The place was a mess. A large bed stood in the center. Yellow and brown spots stained the sheets. Pools of sweat and cum covered a round cushion in front of them. Fungi and mold grew on it.

What is going on?

Silent, Fatou stared at it.

“This scene is. . .odd. I don't remember the Boto Brothers being this messy.” I inhaled the air.

The odor in the room wasn't a collection of musk, sweat, and the aroma of sex like one would expect with a group of Demons.

Instead, the space reeked of magic.

“No.” I walked around and sniffed some more. “This isn't right.”

Not moving, Fatou continued to look at the stains on the bed.

“The Boto Brothers don't have this sort of power. Yet. . .I can smell magic.” I rubbed my chin. “In fact, it reeks of magic in here. Burned cinnamon and other things.”
