He kissed me, letting his lips linger for a couple of seconds before resting his forehead against mine. Almost like he needed a moment to take me in.
To take us in.
I felt his smile against my mouth, whispering, “I always loved this view. It’s nice seeing it with you. I used to come up here alone all the time.”
“We must have just missed each other.”
“Good thing we never have to worry about that again.”
We decided that we were going to live in Oak Island for a while until we wanted to relocate again. Right now, we were basically on a much overdue vacation, and we’d figure out what was next together.
“You’re ovulating,” he declared out of nowhere.
Shocked, I responded, “I’m sorry, what?”
“You heard me.”
“How do you even know that?”
“I track your cycle.”
I stared at me dumbfounded.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“How long have you known my cycle?”
“Why is that relevant?”
“Because your girlfriend wants to know.”
He smiled. “I can’t wait to see you pregnant.”
My mouth dropped open. “You want a baby?”
“I want all my babies with you.”
I leaned in, getting close to his mouth. “You’re so bossy.”
“And you love it. We both know how much you’re into that shit.”
“Oh yeah?”
“You wouldn’t be with me if you weren’t.”
“True story.”
“I do have one demand.”
“I’m afraid to ask.”
“I do want to marry you.”
“Oh yeah?” I smiled from ear to ear.
“That’s not how you make a baby.”
“It is if I want to keep living.”
“Also, true story.” Smiling wide, I reminded, “I love you. Then, now, forever.”
The night couldn’t have been more perfect.

She zeroed in on me, reminiscing before my eyes. Despite the lust that was evident in her gaze.
I played this game of cat and mouse, so I questioned, “Are you from around here?”
I could see her trying to hide back a smile. “I can be.”
“Where are you from?”
“Oak Island.”
I resisted the urge to claim her mouth, craving to remind her who she belonged to.
“You want to dance?”
“Isn’t that dangerous?”
Her eyes connected with mine. “Do you think I need protection?”
“With the dress you’re wearing? Abso-fucking-lutely.”
She looked down at herself. “What’s wrong with my dress?”
“Where’s the rest of it?”
She smirked, peering up at me through her long black lashes. “You didn’t seem to have a problem with my dress, not taking your eyes off me.”
“I still can’t take my eyes off you.”
“You don’t have to worry. The only man I need protection from is you.”
Playing along, I asked, “How long are you in town for?”
“None of your business.”
“What if I’m making it my business?”
“Then you’re in for a rude awakening. Why are you here alone?”
“I’m not alone. You’re here with me.”
“I won’t call you the Nicholas Aires III.”
“No problem. I’d prefer you call me God anyway.”
She smiled. “Humble much?”
“Sweetheart.” I leaned in, close to her lips. “I wasn’t referring to my acting career.”
She giggled, licking her lips.
“Then you’re referring to the way you can throw your dick around?”
I laughed. “It isn’t my dick I throw around. It’s you.”
Her eyes dilated.
“But if you want to continue playing this game of you run and I chase, then there’s only one way for you to find out.”
“Wow. You’re already throwing yourself at me,” she playfully taunted.
“Would you prefer I lie and say I don’t want to fuck you until you can’t walk in the morning?”
“So I’ll be staying until morning?”
“I wouldn’t let you leave if you wanted to.”
“I see. I don’t usually sleep with men who are so clingy.”
I growled. “Are you saying you sleep with random men?”
She winked. “Once or twice.”
My chest locked up, jealousy radiating off me. “How many men have you been with, Bay?”
“Isn’t that like a third date question?”
“Considering my cock has been in every hole in your body, no.”
“Hmm…” She brought her fingers up to her mouth. “I don’t really remember what you’re talking about. You must not have been that good.”
I arched an eyebrow. “How about I take you home with me and remind you just how much I can make you come for me?”
She backed away. Not allowing her a chance to object, I grabbed her arm, holding her in place.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Before I could give it too much thought, I pulled her toward my chest, bringing her into my arms. In one fluid motion, I gripped the back of her neck, tugging her closer to my lips.
I didn’t hesitate—I loved how she looked at me.
“I’m to marry you, Bailey.”
“Is this you asking?”
“What if it was?”
Her beauty held me captive.
She was glowing.
Serene.
Fucking breathtaking.
All in one breath, she replied…
“Then I’d say yes.”

“Bailey!” the reporter shouted on the red carpet of our movie premiere. “The critics are already raving and singing both your praises for your roles in this movie. There’s chatter about you two dominating this upcoming award season. How do you feel about that?”
For the past hour, I was tortured into walking the red carpet. I usually avoided this part, but Bailey was adamant about me escorting her versus waiting for her in the theater like I planned to.
