“Love that for us.” I beamed.
“That’s good because I love you.”
“I don’t think I’ll ever tire of hearing that from you.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Good.” I went to sit back up, but he gripped my neck and kissed me instead.
“I thought we needed to kiss on it to make it official.”
“I like those terms and conditions.” I lay across him, placing my arm on his chest to hold my head up to look at him. “Am I hurting you?”
“You weigh nothing.”
“There’s something else I want to talk to you about.”
“Sounds serious.”
I shrugged. “I guess it depends on how you see it.”
“What exactly am I seeing?”
“It’s not so much seeing as you meeting.”
“Meeting?”
“Yeah, I’d love for you to come home with me.”
“Home with you? To Oak Island?”
“Yeah. My great-grandparents, Alex and Lucas, are having their wedding anniversary, and my whole family is attending this big party at their restaurant. I’d love nothing more than for you to meet them and vice versa.”
I didn’t have to hold my breath long since he spoke with conviction, “It’d be my honor.”
Aires
There was a surge of emotions I didn’t expect to feel so quickly again, but I should have known better. If our relationship thus far had been any indication, it would be filled with unexpected feelings in one way or another. I guess you could say it kept us on our toes.
However, I hadn’t expected Bailey to be the one to initiate the conversation I’d been avoiding. I felt as if these past few months of being together every day had proved to her how much she’d be willing to lose to be with me. Although I appreciated it, I didn’t want her to possibly resent me in the future if being with me would fuck up her career.
Her inviting me to what sounded like a huge family function meant more to me than she could ever know. There was something about being the first guy who’d meet them that I couldn’t ignore. I never met a girl’s family before. I barely made it past seeing them more than a few times after we slept together.
This was completely uncharted territory for me, and the truth was, I couldn’t wait to meet them. If they were anything like Bailey, I knew they’d be amazing people who’d have your back.
“What’s your schedule look like when we get back?” she asked, loving my response.
“I’ll always make time for you.”
“Same, but I’m also taking time off.”
“You’re not going to accept the role?”
I shook my head. “No. I just want to take a break for a little while.”
“A break from everything or just acting?”
“From everything. I’m tired of the photo shoots and the different events every night. The all work, no play mentality. You’re the most fun I’ve had in years, Aires. Being with you these past few months has shown me how much of life I’ve missed out on.”
“I’m proud of you for putting yourself first.”
“Thanks, you’ve been the biggest influence on me, and I don’t want to let another second go by when I’m missing something else, and I’m my dad’s only kid, you know?”
“Why is that? I’d think your old man would want a boy to carry on his name.”
“My stepmom, she’s… she just didn’t want to have kids, and he respected that. They always said their love was enough, and they spoiled me like crazy because of it.”
“You’re more than enough for anyone.”
I smiled as he swept the hair away from my face.
“Does your team know?”
“Not yet.”
“When are you going to tell them?”
“Soon.”
“They’re going to blame me.”
“I know.”
“Well, I’m glad we’re on the same page.”
“This isn’t just about you. I want to spend time on Oak Island. I bought a house there last year but have yet to enjoy it. The only time I was there was when I did the walk-through with my real estate agent. It’s furnished and everything. I want to spend time with my family. I miss them terribly and just want to be present for a minute. You know?”
I nodded.
“But…” she proposed. “You could fly back with me, and we could just go to my house in Oak Island.”
“You want to go from this house to your house?”
“Yeah.” She rubbed her nose on my chest. “I do. Plus, the anniversary party is a few days after I get back. You wouldn’t have to make two trips this way.”
“Are you trying to convince me?”
“Is it working? I could throw in more, like I’d love to show you where I grew up and all.”
“That’s a very nice barter you got there.”
“I thought so.”
“If you need me to sweeten the deal, I could throw in a couple of blow jobs.”
“I see.”
She smirked, amused.
“You drive a hard bargain, Bay. What if I need to go home to feed my cat?”
Her eyebrows raised. “You have a cat?”
