“She doesn’t need that, what she needs is retaliation,” Colt said, dropping the spoon. “She wants him dead in that box. She wants him fucking gone.”

“Are you sure she wants that, or do you?”

Colt gritted his teeth. “This isn’t about me.”

“No? Do you really think Rosalie wants her father dead?”

“Yeah, I do. Even before he killed her mother, she asked me to kill him. I have every intention of doing so. He took Nancy, now he’s taken Gabrielle, and who knows what the fuck will happen to Petal?”

“She is stable.”

“Cut the bullshit, Dad. You and I both know being shot at and nearly dying changes you. Petal is not going to be the same and neither is Rosalie.” He didn’t even want to begin to think about how different Rosalie was already. It fucking scared him how much it mattered to him. From the moment he met Rosalie, he’d vowed to make her life miserable, and now he’d do and give anything to take that fucking pain away. He’d lived it.

Pirate suddenly came into the kitchen. “Er, guys,” Pirate said.

“Not now,” Warden said, holding up his hand as if to silence him. “Do you seriously think I don’t know that?”

“We’ve got to retaliate,” Colt said.

“You think I don’t see that?”

“Damn it, Dad, she’s hurting.” It was the first time since he’d joined the club as a prospect that he’d called him Dad in front of the guys. He always showed Warden the respect he was due.

“And Rosalie just took off in Colt’s car and she was carrying a gun,” Pirate said.

Colt ignored him and was about to plead with his father some more when Pirate’s words suddenly sunk in. “What?”

“Yeah, I tried to stop her but she kind of aimed the gun at me and then at my balls. Told me to back off, and I think she’s going to the Evil Fuckers MC.”

He didn’t think. Colt charged for the door, leaving the soup boiling and in the back of his mind hoping that someone would turn it off for him.

His car was indeed gone. Rosalie could drive, he’d fucking forgotten that. She had told him she wouldn’t take any gifts from Daemon for fear of what he would force Gabrielle to do.

“Shit! Fuck!” he screamed at the top of his lungs as he rushed toward his bike. He quickly straddled the machine, aware of others rushing out, but he didn’t wait around for them. Rosalie was going to get herself killed.

Taking off out of the clubhouse, he rode in the direction of the Evil Fuckers MC clubhouse. Shit had happened so fucking fast. He couldn’t even keep up right now.

Colt sped up, gliding over the roads, avoiding the occasional pothole. His focus was on his wife. On the woman he shouldn’t give a shit about, but the one he knew he’d fallen fucking in love with. That wasn’t part of the bastard plan. Falling for Rosalie wasn’t in the cards but he’d done it. He’d gone and fallen in love with her and he didn’t even know when it fucking happened. It was long before the bullets started firing. Even before he saw her beaten behind the back of the diner. He had a horrible feeling it was the moment he saw her in dungarees and a striped shirt. That could have been the day and if it was, he was so fucking pissed off.

He arrived at the MC clubhouse. There were no bikes in the lot, no women hanging around. It was eerily silent.

Climbing off his bike, he saw Rosalie’s parked car, and then he spotted Daemon’s bike. The only one in the lot. As soon as he entered the main clubhouse, he had a feeling he knew why. There was blood, a lot of blood, and it was everywhere.

“You’re not going to do it,” Daemon said, his voice carrying.

Colt slowly stepped toward the door and there he saw father and daughter. Rosalie held a gun, the one he kept in his room back at the clubhouse, the gun he’d forgotten about. And it was aimed at her father.

“You don’t think I’m going to do it? You gave that order, didn’t you? You told them to kill me and in doing so, you killed Mom.” Her hand shook a little.

Daemon looked a mess.

“I didn’t give the order for them to kill you or your mother.” Daemon smiled. “I actually loved your mother.”

“Liar!”

“Do you think I didn’t love her? Everything I did was for her.”

Rosalie laughed. “Everything you did. So you raped her for her own good?”

He saw Daemon’s jaw clenched. “I didn’t rape her.”

“She never wanted you. She never wanted this life.”

“And there was a time she didn’t fucking want you,” Daemon said.

Colt hung back.

Rosalie laughed. “You think I don’t know that?”

Daemon frowned.

“Oh, I don’t have any memories of this place at all. I don’t remember much of you or, who was it, Bug? Colt asked a lot of questions and I kind of put two and two together. My mom, after my birth, gave me to you, and I’m guessing you somehow manipulated her into wanting me. You can try and ruin my mom’s memory but it’s not going to happen. We all make mistakes, but she loved me. In the end, she did love me, and you took her.”
