“Dad?”

“You took her from me.” He should have known to kill this piece of shit when he was born.

No boy, no man, nothing took from him. He drew back his knife and thrust it deep into his son’s gut. Bug looked at him and Daemon pulled back the blade and sunk it in deeper.

Evil Fuckers MC was his. He didn’t need a son. Nor did he need a daughter.

The Satan’s Death Riders MC would know what they had taken from him.

Chapter Twenty

Colt didn’t know how to get through to Rosalie. Petal had woken up and he’d watched the two women seem to communicate in silence. Even though Petal was hurting, she had opened her arms to Rosalie, and he had no choice but to watch.

She didn’t want him to touch her.

It was Petal who had told Rosalie she needed to go home, that she had to go and get washed, and then she could come back to the hospital and bring some good food. Rosalie had agreed with Petal, but she wouldn’t look at Colt. She’d left the room and Colt thanked Petal.

“You need to keep an eye on her,” Petal said. “She’s not … she’s struggling, and I know she’s angry. She is going to do something stupid if you’re not careful.”

He’d taken the warning and driven Rosalie back to the clubhouse. Colt had already given Warden the warning that Rosalie needed to be watched and the guys at the clubhouse had been made aware of it. Not once during the drive did Rosalie talk to him. He tried to get her to open up, but she was having none of it. She climbed out of the car once they arrived back at the clubhouse and went straight to his bedroom. Colt stood in the main room of the clubhouse and watched her retreat.

Warden moved toward him and put a hand on his shoulder. “I’m glad you were able to get her away from the hospital.”

It was one of the funniest things he’d heard.

“You think I’ve been able to talk her away from the hospital? Petal told her she smelled and needed to get a shower. Rosalie’s not talking to me.”

Gone was the happy woman of their honeymoon. Instead, there was this giant, pain-filled void, who wasn’t eating or drinking.

He ran a hand down his face and was tempted to just grab a bottle and start drinking, but he didn’t. Instead, he slapped his old man on the shoulder and proceeded to make his way upstairs to his woman. She wasn’t in the bedroom so he stepped into the bathroom.

“Hey, babe,” he said.

“Get out,” Rosalie said.

“I know you’re hurting right now, and I get that.” He moved to the shower stall and opened it up. She stood there, naked, looking so fucking miserable. “I lost my sister, remember?”

He saw her lip quiver.

“I know it doesn’t matter right now. All you can see and feel is the pain.”

“I feel like I’m drowning,” Rosalie said. “I feel like this is all a dream and I just need to pinch myself hard enough and wake up.” She grabbed the flesh of her arm and squeezed, crying out. He saw the tears forming, a mixture of pain and anguish. “But each time I do, I don’t wake up. My mommy is dead, Colt. She’s dead and she’s not coming back. I can’t…” She put a hand to her chest. “I feel like I can’t breathe.”

He stepped into the stall. He didn’t give a shit if he got covered in water.

“No,” Rosalie said. “No.” Her hands were clenched into fists like she wanted to hit him and she did try to hit his chest, and he took it.

Colt would do anything to take that pain away from her. She tried to pull away from him, but he gripped the back of her neck.

“I’ve got you, Rosalie.” He pressed a kiss to her temple. “I’ve got you.”

He tucked her hands against him even as she wanted to hit him.

“I hate him,” Rosalie said. “I hate him so much.”

“I know.”

“She’s dead.”

He didn’t need to say another word. All he tried to do was hold her. Hoping that he was able to take her pain away. It was useless, though. She collapsed against him and he held her, hoping to absorb her pain, for it to lessen in some way.

The minutes passed. He didn’t have a clue how long they were in the shower, but it was long enough for it to go cold. Climbing out of the shower, he grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her. She looked so freaking lost. Colt took over, removing his clothes and tossing them into the laundry basket.

“I bet you wish you never met me,” Rosalie said.

“Shut up.”

“You hate me, remember? I wonder if this is like karma. My dad took your sister and some of your club.”
