Brows pulling together, Milo frowned. “Is he as bossy as Dally?”
“Yes, but in this case, he actually handles all the phone calls from my family and I took some of his clients that were driving him insane.” Milo blinked, probably wondering what kind of crazy could beat my family’s interesting brand. “It works out well because I don’t care what weird strangers are doing and he loves all the gossip my family provides. They’re good distractions.”
“I always thought rich people had great lives but yours is kind of weird.” Once the words came out and I was doing my best not to laugh, he blinked. “Oh, that was rude. Sorry, Daddy.”
I got a cheek kiss but I shook my head. “Nope, this sorry needs to involve a grown-up kiss since you’re currently big. If I let you move, I’m going to have little Milo asking for chicken nuggets and dessert.”
His giggle said I was right, but he tried to hold it back. “No. I’m very grown-up and…and I wanted pasta for dinner?”
Raising one eyebrow, I gave him a skeptical look. “You wanted cut-up spaghetti that you call something cute.”
“You’re really smart.” He tried to kiss my cheek again, but he blinked. “Oh, I do that a lot. Okay, big boy kiss time.”
And he was already slipping into his little headspace.
“That’s right. Then we can play or have dinner.” He was getting off at a weird time, so I wasn’t sure if he’d eaten or not. “My only plan is to keep you tonight, so everything else is flexible.”
He wanted to laugh but he held it inside and nodded. “I understand.”
That worked for me as consent.
“Kisses for Daddy.” His headspace was questionable but he puckered up his lips and brushed them against mine. “Thank you for coming to keep me, Daddy.”
“You’re welcome.” Stealing one more kiss as I tightened my hold on him, I nibbled and deepened it just enough to brush my tongue against his. When he moaned, I pulled back and grinned. “Thank you for my kiss.”
Milo nodded, already looking more innocent. “Daddy likes kisses.”
“That’s right. So I’m going to get lots once we get home.” We just needed to figure out which home that would be.
So maybe there were a few more details besides just keeping him that we needed to work out.
Chapter 11
Milo
“Clothes just get dirty.” I shrugged. “I…I can do it?”
Probably.
Daddy’s washing machine had a lot of buttons.
“Do you know how to do it?” He was pushing the buttons but he was frowning. “Does your helper do it?”
Daddy finally laughed and shook his head. “I’m not incompetent. This is new. I think Grace has only used it once too.”
Oh.
“It’s like a spaceship. Those have lots of buttons too.”
Daddy nodded. “I agree and the next time an appliance breaks I’m going to be the one to replace it. I think we were scammed because there is no way all this is necessary.”
Yep.
“The machines at the laundromat don’t have all these buttons.” But I liked not having to use all my quarters, so I was going to be patient. “Thank you for helping me.”
Daddy leaned over and kissed my head. “You’re welcome. Okay, I think this is the regular cycle.”
It started.
He did it.
I got to keep my quarters and I didn’t have to be nice to the cranky man.
“Now…now do we get to play?” Daddy hadn’t minded the laundry problem or that I’d eaten a sandwich for my dinner but we hadn’t gotten to play yet.
“How about we play in the tub?” Daddy kissed my nose when I pouted. “You’ve been yawning since we got home.”
Aww.
“But…but…” Shoot. He was right. “I’m not tired.”
Daddy nodded and was really smart again. “I know. But your brain just probably needs to relax. You did a lot of thinking and working today.”
“Yeah…it’s…two-job day is hard.” Ugh. Another one. “I like…I like them, though. They’re better than when I had three jobs because they were mean.”
And stupid but that was rude.
“How many two-job days do you have each week?” Daddy took my hand and led me out of the laundry room and through the house. “You were busy today.”
“Yeah and…and it was restocking day at my first job. That’s bigger hard.” Because some people didn’t know their ABCs and kept putting stuff in the wrong order.
Yep, they were stupid…but they were nice, so I ABC’d for them.
“I…I have two-job days just a few times a week, but I like talking to people and helping them.” I was going to tell Daddy that I was a good helper but I yawned and got distracted. “Hey, you have a big tub. I remember.”
“That’s right.” Daddy looked like he wanted to smile. “And I have a plan for the big tub.”
“I like big tubs.” They were nice. “One time…one time I had an apartment with a big tub, but I couldn’t stay there long.”
