“I thought you’d be happy. You’ve been glaring at these boxes every time we’re in the garage.” Shit. She noticed that? “I’ll get them taken care of. You’re such a clean freak.” She half-heartedly rolls her eyes at me.
“I enjoy picking up after you,” I say honestly.
I’ve always heard people tell stories about there being a messy spouse and a clean one. I thought I would be annoyed by having to pick up after someone, but that isn’t the case. I actually enjoy it. It’s weird, I know, but it circles back to taking care of her, and that’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing from the day I met my Bunny. She’s my woman to take care of.
“Then why are you glaring at my boxes?” She puts her hands on her hips, making my shirt she’s wearing ride up higher on her thighs. “Benny!” I laugh, bringing my attention back upwards. “You’re insatiable.”
“Can you blame me?” I clear the space between us, grabbing her ponytail to tilt her head back. “I glare at the boxes because you not unpacking them makes me think you don’t have plans to stay. I want to see your stuff in our house, where it belongs.”
“Benny.” Her eyes fill with tears as she smiles up at me. It’s time for her to settle in. Most of her memories have come back at this point. We still haven't caught the asshole who bought her, but we’re closing in on him. It’s only a matter of time. “I just haven’t bothered with them because there isn’t much I need from inside of them.” I love hearing those words. It lets me know that she has everything she needs here with me.
“All right, we’ll get what you need out of them this weekend and donate the rest?”
“Yes.” She stands on her tiptoes and presses her mouth into mine.
It’s not shocking that I end up taking her against the stacked boxes in the garage. We end up being late getting into my office at Hart Bonds, but I don’t give a shit. My brother gets it. I leave her in the front with Pink.
They’ve been pretty close since the first day they met, but over the last month they’ve become best friends. “Did you—” I pause when I see Carter, Pink's younger brother, sitting in Kane’s office.
“I got it,” Kane responds, knowing what I’m asking for. He pulls the box out from his desk. I snag it, seeing that Carter is filling out an application for bounty hunter training.
“You Hart men move fast,” Carter says when I snap open the box to display the wedding ring Pink and Kane picked up for me. Pink had a big hand in helping me find one that Bunny would like. She’d been sneakily asking her questions while pretending to look for jewelry she was thinking about getting for herself.
“You’re about to be a Hart soon. That scare you?” I tease.
Carter is on the edge of turning eighteen soon, but he still decided he wants to get into the family business with Kane. He’s also about to be officially adopted by Pink and Kane. Pink has been raising her brother for a while now, and this not only helps with some state crap but to show them both they’re a part of our family now.
“Shit, I would not fall on my face like you two over a woman.”
“Sure.” I laugh, making him pale.
“I got my hands full, and I’ve got myself in enough trouble for now.”
“That trouble saved a bunch of girls, Carter. Mine included.” I’ll be proud to call Carter my nephew or even brother. The papers with the court don’t matter to me. He’s already family as far as I’m concerned. I don’t need a paper for that. “I’m forever indebted to you. Not that it matters. We’re family now, so you can always count on me, debt or not.” I hold my hand out.
“Thanks, man.” He takes it. I yank him to his feet and give him a hug.
“Welcome to the family and Hart Bonds,” I tell him before I release my hold on him.
“That family growing?” he asks, nodding to the ring box I still have in my hand.
“That’s the plan. I only have to—” I stop speaking when a knock sounds at the door before it opens. I shove the box into my pocket quickly. Pink and Bunny stand in the doorway.
“We’re going to hop down to the bakery. Do you all want anything?” Pink asks. I glance at my Bunny. The bakery is only on the corner. She and Pink have walked there a few times. The first time they’d been gone only a few minutes since Bunny wanted in and out, but the last few times Pink got her to linger.
“Come here.” I motion to Bunny. She comes right to me. “I’ll take anything you want to get me. You know what I like.” I’m not a fan of her being out of my sight, let alone out of the same building I’m in, but I need to give some.
