His hand drifts from my hip to my thigh, stopping right behind my knee and pulling it up over his hip. Once my leg is latched around him, his hands move to my waist, caressing my skin like it’s sacred to him. It’s such an intimate position that my heart beats quickly, my skin growing flushed, and he grins. “I like you a lot, too. More than I thought it was possible to.”
I arch an eyebrow. “You didn’t think I’d be this awesome, hmmm?”
He chuckles, his laughter lighthearted and goofy. “I knew you were going to be awesome, but I didn’t think I’d need you in the way that I do. I feel good when you’re with me. Complete, fulfilled. If that makes any sense at all to you.”
I nod my head, reveling in the warmth and the affection in his statement. “It does. It really does. It feels like we’re in the movies, but it does kind of make sense.”
“Kind of?” he asks, one black brow arched.
“Okay, it makes sense,” I giggle. He leans forward and brushes his lips against mine.
“That’s my girl,” he murmurs. My heartbeat accelerates again, sure that we’re about to have a repeat of last night, but then he pulls away reluctantly. “I hate to do this to you,” he sighs. “But I have to get ready for work.”
“No worries,” I reply, even though my heart is begging him to stay with me in bed all day. “I completely understand. Your job is very important.”
He untangles himself from me, placing a tender kiss on my forehead as he stands. His naked body still amazes me and I stare in wonderment as he walks away, heading to the adjoined bathroom. His back is wide and bronzed, his legs long and strong, and that ass? Wow. He turns to me from the doorway and grins because he’s just caught me staring.
“Stay for a while,” he suggests. “Don’t feel the need to rush home. I’d like it if you ate some breakfast so I don’t feel like an awful host.”
My body practically melts with every word he says. I nod my head and say, “Okay. I’ll probably be gone by eleven though because my best friend is coming over my apartment for lunch.”
He nods his head. “Sure honey. Make yourself at home until then. But when will I see you again?”
Now it’s my turn to smile, but I decide not to play hard to get.
“Soon,” I say as my heart blossoms. “Very soon.”
“Oh, my God,” Petra exclaims as she barges through my apartment door. “You totally had hot sex last night.”
I furrow my brow and my mouth drops open in feigned shock. “I did not, Petra!” I deny.
She crosses her arms across her chest as my front door swings shut and Quibbles runs to my bedroom down the hall at the sound of my friend’s voice. Petra is a bit too loud for her, so my cat tends to barricade herself in my room until Petra is gone.
“Oh, so now you’re lying to your best friend?” Petra giggles. “Let me see your hair. Come on, let’s see.”
I clamp my hands on top of my bun.
“What’s up with the hair? That’s not going to tell you anything!”
Petra merely mock glares at me.
“Come on, let me see if you have sex hair!” she says. “You always do your hair so nicely, so if it’s in a bun, it means you had sex.”
“You’re such a freak!” I reply to her. “No, I have my hair in a bun sometimes after showers.”
She puts her hands on her hips.
“Did you just take a shower?”
I clap my hands over my mouth.
“No, but …”
Petra smirks.
“See girl? Now, let’s see that sex hair.”
I sigh. My buddy knows me too well, and my hands travel to the elastic band in my curls. I tug at it, my locks falling in tangled waves down to my shoulders. Petra’s mouth falls open, a neon green, manicured nail pointing at me with accusatory eyes.
“You did have sex!” Petra cries gleefully, jumping up and down and clapping her hands like a small child. Her blue tasseled shirt sways with each jump, her white, bootcut jeans swishing as she bounces up and down. “You better tell me everything right now. How could you even think about hiding that from me, Olivia?!”
I shrug my shoulders. “Don’t you think that’s a little private and personal?”
She casts me a fake-annoyed glance and plops down on my couch, kicking off her shoes and grabbing a takeout box of Chinese food from the coffee table.
“Please, Olivia. Best friends share all the nasty, dirty details of their sex lives. It’s like a rite of passage.”
I roll my eyes and take a seat on the opposite side of the couch, smiling ruefully. “Seems a bit invasive.”
“Hey,” she mumbles around a mouthful of food. “I don’t make the rules. I told you all about Chester the Molester, so it’s your turn now. Spill all those dirty details about that hot ER doctor.”
