She was going to be fighting for her life.
“All right, come on then,” she said and aimed her blaster right for the center of the monster’s impossibly broad chest. Taking a deep breath, she pulled the trigger.
But the beam of blue light bounced right off!
“What in the Underworld?” Sky muttered to herself. She looked at her blaster and then back at the Trollox. She couldn’t be sure in the shadows, but it looked like there was a burn mark on his chest, so the laser had definitely hit him—it just hadn’t had any effect.
Well, no effect other than to enrage him. All three heads roared at her and one big hand rubbed at the spot on his chest.
“Your little blaster won’t work on Shazzer, girly!” one of the other males taunted gleefully. “His skin’s as tough as veeber hide! You can’t do nothing with a blaster but piss him off!”
Sky lifted her chin.
“All right—then I’ll piss him off,” she snapped. Drawing her stun-stick and holding a weapon in each hand, she ran at the monster.
Her intention was to shock and blast the Trollox at the same time, hopefully surprising him into moving enough so that she could slip past him. She felt fairly confident that she could handle the men behind him—their hides weren’t blaster-proof, after all. But she had to get past Shazzer to get away.
At first it seemed like her desperate plan might work. She shot another blast directly at his chest—it seemed to have more of an effect at closer range—and shoved the stun-stick into his massive side at the same time.
The Trollox bellowed in pain and took a stumbling step back, but his body was still too broad and the alley was too narrow—Sky couldn’t get through.
“Move, you big bastard!” she shouted, shooting and stunning him again. “Move, I said!”
Shazzer moved, all right, but not the way Sky had hoped. With a snarling cry of pain, he twisted away from her stun-stick and reached down to grab her by the waist.
With a gasp, Sky found herself lifted in one of his massive paws and held high in the air. Mother of Serpents, she was in trouble now! What in the Underworld was she going to do?
She had lost her grip on the stun-stick, which tumbled to the pavement with a clatter, but she still had her blaster. Taking aim, she set her sights on the eyes of the middle head—the control head. If she could take it out, maybe the other two would be too stupid to know what to do and the Trollox would drop her.
She pulled the trigger and watched with satisfaction as one yellow eye went out like a light, leaving only a smoking crater behind in the middle head’s face.
“My eye! She fucking shot my eye, she did!” bellowed Shazzer. The other two heads twisted around to look at the middle head and the Trollox’s grip on her waist got tighter, making Sky gasp for breath. With her free hand, she gripped the long, thick fingers encircling her and tried to pry them loose. But it was no good—the Trollox was too damn strong!
Desperately, she pointed her blaster at the middle head again.
“If you don’t want to be completely blind, let me go!” she ordered. “I mean it, I’ll blind all three of your heads if you don’t release me!”
But this only seemed to make Shazzer mad with rage and pain.
“Not on your life, girly!” he growled. “Shazzer has plans for you, so he does!”
“We fucks her!” the right head snarled, speaking up for the first time in the same low, grinding tones.
“And then we eats her!” the left head finished. Leaning forward, it attempted to bite into Sky’s leg—a move that would surely have taken her leg off at the knee if it had succeeded.
Sky wasn’t having it though—she kicked out at the enormous head, her booted foot catching it in the nose. There was a crunching sound and a moment later, the nose looked more like a squashed brentha fruit with black ichor dripping from both nostrils.
The left head howled and gnashed its teeth at her. It swung from side to side on its short, thick neck and one of the long, curving tusks caught her inner thigh.
Sky let out a gasp as she felt the sharp tip of the tusk rip through the mesh of her uniform and her skin as well. How deep was the wound? She could feel warm wetness running down her leg, but she had no way to tell.
The Trollox’s grip on her waist tightened again.
“I’ll have you, girly!” he ground out, the middle head’s remaining yellow eye peering at her malevolently. “Shazzer will have you for fucking and for eating—you’ll see!”
Sky was beginning to feel dizzy. She couldn’t tell if it was because of blood loss or the fact that it was hard to breathe with the giant, thick-fingered hand wrapped around her waist. She aimed her blaster again but this time Shazzer was ready. He jerked his middle head away and the shot went wide, right between two of his heads. It grazed one thick ear flap but that only seemed to enrage him further.
