She shrugged, unwilling to make this easier on him. “And I’m not sure what you’re looking for here, Brad. You want a list of sexual acts? I’m a middle-of-the-road kind of girl. I do not think kissing has to be purely sexual, but when a man’s mouth is on my pussy, I tend to think we’ve had sex of some kind.”

He’d gone a bright pink. “I don’t understand how you can talk like that.”

Brad was a delicate flower, and she needed to remember not everyone had grown up with a father who left books about human sexuality sitting around as his birds and bees talk. “All right. I’ll be more discrete. Drake and I spent a bit of time tonight enjoying the physical side of a relationship that two consenting adults can have without their coworkers having any say in it. So if you’re done…”

He stopped her. “I’m not. I’m also not trying to butt into your relationship, but the truth is any relationship between the two of you is going to be a problem for my mission.”

She put a hand on her hip, eyeing him. “Don’t you mean my mission?”

“Look, you set this up and it was brilliant.” In this he seemed far more confident. He didn’t give up a bit of his space. “I have no doubt you’ll do well. I’m more than willing to work with you, but at the end of the day it’s not your job on the line. It’s mine.”

No, it was her life, but she hadn’t cared about that in a long time. “I won’t be around to get fired if things go wrong.”

“And I’ll have to live with that for the rest of my life. I already see the faces of people I sent out into the field who didn’t come back. I see them every night before I try to sleep. I don’t take this lightly. You are my operative no matter what Drake says. No matter what Taggart says. You were given to me and I intend to see you alive at the end of this, but you have to help me. Drake is my friend, but he can’t see straight when it comes to his sister.”

“Then you should help me get him removed because his sister isn’t my contact,” Taylor explained. “I’m almost certain of it. I’ve read the files he sent me, and I was talking to my contact the night she was in California with Drake and Hawthorne. The timing doesn’t work for Julia Ennis to be the woman we’ve been talking to.”

“It doesn’t matter. The truth is if you are successful, at some point you will meet Julia, and that’s what Drake’s counting on,” Brad insisted. “He’s using you to find her.”

Which made her think that he wasn’t involved.

Deep down she knew he wasn’t, but she wasn’t willing to allow herself to be sure just yet.

Because if you’re sure, then you have to give him up, and that was an amazing orgasm. You haven’t had that kind of orgasm since the last time he was in your life. The world seemed so much nicer after an orgasm, and he would have given you another one if Kyle hadn’t knocked on the door. Don’t be reasonable now. Be reasonable later. After you’ve had all the orgasms. Like a couple of years from now. If you leave him then it will really hurt. Maybe marry him and have a couple of kids and then tell him it was all about revenge. Good luck with our five children. Thanks for the sex.

Yep. She was faltering and being ridiculous, and she couldn’t quite make herself walk away.

“I can contact him when I get in touch with her. He doesn’t need to take over running the op,” she argued. If she could have a couple of months without him around, she might be able to talk herself into staying away from him. Or she was fooling herself once again. “He’s got a lot on his plate, and have we thought about the fact that he and Kyle hanging around with me might get me killed? I’m not sure I’ll be able to explain why I’m chilling with the very people who my contact has to know have been looking into them.”

“Right now no one truly knows what you look like, so I’m not worried about that.” Brad yawned again. “But it’s definitely something we need to address once we begin the op. As to whether or not they know Drake and Kyle were investigating The Consortium, that depends on what Julia’s told them. She could have kept that under wraps since it might make her look bad.”

“Or she told them she shut it all down since that makes her look good,” she countered.

“Either way, if this works and you’re undercover long term, you won’t be able to have any contact with either of them. They will have to stand back.”
