“Absolutely not. As I’ve said. You’re my wife and I took my vows seriously. I knew the moment I said I do, there would be no other woman for me. You’re it until death does us part.”
“Ethan,” she whispered. This time her tears were from happiness. “There have been no other men for me either.”
“Good, I trust I don’t have to worry about Van Houten?”
“Who?”
He smiled. “The man you were cuddled up to at Megan’s engagement party?”
“Oh, Elliot. I’d just met him that night at the engagement. He saw that I was in a panic when I spotted you so he came to my rescue. We had coffee together afterward and that’s it. I did call him to tell him that I wasn’t interested in anything permanent. He didn’t seem to take it too hard. To be perfectly honestly, I think he was only interested in me because I reminded him of someone. He kept asking me if I had sister named Candice. He said I had an uncanny resemblance to her. I think he’s probably still hung up on her.”
“As long as he leaves you alone because you belong to me.”
“And that works both ways buddy. You are mine. Who was that brunette you brought along to the party?”
“Up until a few weeks ago, she was one of the associates at my firm. Apparently, she’s moved on to greener pastures. I believe she’s taken a job at a firm in D.C. I promise it was strictly platonic between us.”
“I believe you.” She rested her head against his chest finally at peace.
“I love you, Riley. But this time around, we’re going to make this work. Of course, we’ll make it official. Would you like a big wedding or a trip to the justice of the peace?”
“How about Maui? I’d love to go there again, just you and me on the beach with an officiate and hula dancers.”
Ethan kissed the top of her forehead. “That sounds perfect.”
“I can’t wait. I want things to be different this time around.”
“They will be. We’re both older and more mature. We’ll go to counseling to make sure what happened before never happens again.”
“And I promise to not run to my family when any little issue pops up. Mom and Raine won’t like it, but I don’t care what Raine thinks. As for Mom, she’s still my mother and I’ll have to find a way to forgive her for what she did. But she’ll have to get over it eventually. At least Rachel will be happy for us and I know Megan will be too.” Riley sat up abruptly. “Oh crap, Megan is probably wondering where I am. I have to get back to her house. As much as I want to stay here, tomorrow is her big day and she needs her maid of honor.”
“Okay, I I’ll deliver you safely to her house.” Ethan rolled her over and planted himself on top of her with a wolfish grin. “After this go round.”
Riley laughed. Sex with an ex was exciting but making love to her soul mate was even better.
EPILOGUE
“I want you to tell me everything and don’t leave out a single detail about the honeymoon.” Riley gushed, giving her friend a hug. Megan and Jackson had been back from the honeymoon in Bali for a week, but this was the first time she’d seen them.
Riley and Ethan had been invited over to the newlyweds’ house for dinner.
"Hi, Jackson. How’s it going?” Ethan and Jackson shook hands.
“I can’t complain. I got a new fifty inch flat screen in the man cave. How about I get you a beer and show it to you while our womenfolk have a catch up.”
“Sounds good to me.” Ethan leaned over and gave Riley a light kiss on the lips. “I’ll see you in a bit, kitten.” Her heart skipped a beat. She didn’t think she could be more in love with Ethan than she was right now. In the past few weeks, things had been moving pretty quickly. They decided she would move into Ethan’s house because it had more rooms and was more ideal when they started a family. When not at work, or packing up her house in preparation for her move, they spent all their time together.
Being with Ethan again was pure bliss but this time around it was different. She saw things differently. Things that used to bother her didn’t. She no longer took everything so personally. Riley saw it as a sign of her growth. Ethan had also changed. He was more patient with her. They talked more and laughed a lot. One thing hadn’t changed however. The sex was still earth shattering. They had made love just before they’d arrived at Megan and Jacksons and Riley was still a little sore from Ethan’s rough loving. The very thought of it sent a shiver down Riley’s spine.
