“What the fuck?” Jackson growls, lowering his gun as he raises a flashlight and shines it on us.

“What the hell are you girls doin’ back here?” Spike asks, his eyes moving to Ciara.

Cade stares over at Addi, who is on her feet now. She’s standing, fists balled by her side, anger flashing over her face. His face goes slack, and I know that he just figured out she overheard him.

“Sugar,” he begins, but her head whips up before he can say another word.

Her voice is a shaky growl when she demands. “Is it true?”

“You know club business is just that. Don’t know what the fuck you were thinkin’ listenin’ in like that.”

“Is it true?” She screeches, taking a step toward him.

“Can we talk about this somewhere else?”

Cade is tense, but Addison has never been one to back down easily. She gets right up in his face and leans in, her eyes flashing as she roars. “Answer the fucking question, Cade.”

“It’s true,” he spits back at her, “but you don’t know the fuckin’ half of it.”

Her face drops and she presses a hand to her heart, truly shocked. “You were involved in selling women? Your sister got caught up in it. I... I didn’t even know you had a sister.”

“That ain’t how it went down,” Cade growls. “It was before you. I didn’t fuckin’ know we were sellin’ women...”

“You didn’t know you were selling women?” Addison laughs, but it isn’t funny.

“No,” Cade growls. “I didn’t. I thought I was helpin’ someone move a shipment, and that someone was involved with my sister. Didn’t know until it was too late. Was tryin’ to keep her safe, and shit blew up when I found out. She went with him, I wiped my hands of it, and that was that. Haven’t seen her since.”

“You haven’t seen her? You haven’t fucking seen her?” Addison whispers. “What if she got sold. Did you check?”

Cade’s face hardens. “No.”

“Who the fuck are you?”

“Back off, Addison. You know fuckin’ nothing.”

“No, it’s clear I don’t.”

“Enough, you two.” Jackson steps in. “We’ll talk about this, but not here, not now.”

“No,” Addi shakes her head. “We will not.”

Shoving past the guys, Addison disappears into the night.

I stare at Muff, whose eyes are narrowed on me.

Well, that didn’t go quite as we had planned.

Nobody saw that one coming.

“HAS ANYONE SEEN ADDISON?” I ask, leaning against the bar the next day, bouncing Max on my hip.

“No,” Serenity murmurs, crossing her arms. “She is clearly wanting space. She has Skye, so she wouldn’t be doing anything silly.”

“Maybe not,” Ciara exhales, watching as Danny goes running past with a red firetruck, “but that doesn’t mean she isn’t going through something. I have tried to call her, she won’t answer.”

“She’s shocked. Trust me, I know how that feels. Just give her time,” I say, gently.

“Cade is losing his ever-loving mind.” Ciara frowns, looking at the door where we can hear the guys arguing.

They haven’t stopped.

Shit is blowing up.

“So he should be,” Serenity mutters. “I’m pissed at Jackson for even allowing this to happen. I can’t imagine how Addison is feeling, know Cade was the reason it happened to begin with.”

“We don’t know the whole story,” I try to say, even though I know it makes little difference.

Serenity crosses her arms. “We don’t need to. He sold women, and even if it was unintentional, he didn’t go back to help them. Worse, he didn’t check where his sister is. I’d find it difficult to accept that.”

“Did anyone know Cade had a sister?” Ciara asks, taking a sip from her water bottle.

We all shake our heads.

“Their relationship must have been pretty bad if he never went after her,” I ponder, pursing my lips. “It’s shitty, I know, but we don’t know what kind of past they had.”

“No, I suppose we don’t.” Serenity mutters, seemingly unconvinced.

The door opens, and the guys walk out. Cade doesn’t stop, instead he charges out the front door, fists clenched by his sides. A moment later his bike starts, and we hear it tearing out of the lot. I look at Muff, who seems equally tense. They all are. Walking over, I lean in so only he can hear me.

“Is he okay?”

“No.”

Oh.

“Have you heard from Addison?” Muff asks, his voice gruff.

I shake my head. “No, she won’t answer our calls.”

“We need to find her. She ain’t safe out there with Wesley still hangin’ around. She could get hurt.”

Max reaches out for Muff, and he quickly takes him, relaxing a little.

“Does anyone have any idea where she might be?” I ask, glancing around the room.

“There is a cabin out in the woods that you can rent,” Ciara says, her eyes widening, “her and Cade love going there for vacation. Maybe she went there? It’s honestly the only place outside this club and her house that I could imagine she would go.”
