“We need to go shopping tomorrow,” he says. “Get you some new things.”
“Oh, never mind me,” I say excitedly. “We need to get a crib and a stroller and a changing table. And paint samples and a fluffy white rug, and teeny tiny clothes and diapers and toys. Pacifiers and teething rings too.”
Viktor laughs beside me.
He grins wolfishly. “Maybe I should clear my schedule for a week or two rather than a day.”
“Make it a month.” I smile. “Someone has to paint the nursery you know.”
He laughs as he pulls me into his arms again. I sit with my head on his shoulder, my hands on my stomach, and I realize that I’ve never been happier than I am in this moment.

-just the way you are-
One Month Later
There’s a quiet tap on my bedroom door and I tear my eyes away from the mirror long enough to turn towards the sound.
“Come in,” I say, expecting to see Lacey or Justine.
Instead, Viktor steps into the room. He smiles when he sees me.
“God, Amelia, you look absolutely stunning,” he says quietly as he looks me up and down.
I adore my wedding dress. Its floor length and pure white. A straight, elegant, timeless dress because I’ve always hated poofy wedding dresses. My hair is curled and I’m wearing a silver tiara and a matching choker with diamond earrings that sparkle in the light. I feel stunning today.
“Viktor, what are you doing here?” I screech, waving my hands to shoo him back out of the room. “You know it’s unlucky for the groom to see the bride before the wedding.”
“Amelia, I'm marrying the most amazing woman in the world. How can that be unlucky?”
I feel myself melt at his smile, at his words. He’s right. I am the luckiest girl in the world, marrying my prince. Some old wives’ tale can’t spoil this day.
Viktor comes towards me and wraps his arms around me. He leans down and kisses me. I kiss him back. Yeah, there’s nothing unlucky about this. It feels right. And it’s not like we’ve done anything the traditional way. The way we met, the way we fell in love, none of it followed the rules. And that’s what I love about us. We found each other when neither of us was even looking for love. We saved each other when neither of us even knew we needed saving. And our love grows stronger every day.
Viktor pulls his lips from mine and smiles at me.
“We don’t have long before the ceremony and you might want to fix your lip gloss.”
I look at myself again in the mirror and laugh. Most of my lip gloss is gone. I pick up a tissue and wipe it from Viktor’s mouth and then I pick up the lip gloss and reapply it.
“I just came by to give you this.”
He pulls an envelope from his pocket and holds it out to me. I smile and take it, ripping it open. My jaw drops and I squeal with excitement when I see what’s inside.
“You told me you couldn’t take time off work right now and we couldn’t have a honeymoon,” I laugh, swatting his arm playfully.
“Yeah, I lied,” he admits. “I wanted it to be a surprise. I did promise to take you to Rome though, didn't I?”
I squeal again at the thought of two weeks in the most romantic city in the world with the man I adore more than anything. Viktor laughs at my excitement as I wrap him up in a tight hug.
“No kissing,” I warn him quickly. “I don’t have time to fix my lips again.”
He laughs, shaking his head and then he releases me.
“Do you still think me coming here now was unlucky?” he asks with a gleam in his eye.
“No. I know I’m the luckiest girl in the whole world,” I tell him. “Now go or we’re going to be late for our own wedding.”
He nods and heads for the door.
“Viktor?” I say as he pulls it open. He glances back at me, and I smile at him. “I love you.”
“Not half as much as I love you,” he replies.
He leaves the room and I spin in a circle, laughing with delight. I can’t believe that Amelia Madison, trailer trash, is about to become Amelia Leshchenko, the luckiest woman in the world.
