“You’re Bonnie,” I say, taking her in.
Dressed in jeans and a tank, her long blond hair flows over her shoulders and her brown eyes take me in with curiosity. She is gorgeous, and I can see why she caught the attention of the broody, angry biker she is now with. Lord knows he wouldn’t be easy to deal with, so she’s a saint just for doing that.
She looks me up and down, crossing her arms. “You’re so damned pretty. Mex forgot to mention that in his little bitch session.”
I like her.
I smile, uncrossing my own arms and dropping them to my sides. “Bitching about me, is he? Probably because he can’t handle me. He needs an outlet. Most people do after they meet me.”
“I’ve heard you’re bad news.” Bonnie tips her head to the side, smiling. “I like the bad ones. Are you really the daughter of that woman who is like, the worst of the worst?”
I snort. “That’s putting it nicely, and yep, that’s me. I’m not proud of it, believe me.”
“Your face is messed up. If my man did that ...”
“Isn’t club business like sacred or something? You don’t get to know what they do behind closed doors?”
She rolls her eyes with a snort. “That doesn’t mean I’ll hold back on telling him what is right and wrong and what I do and do not like. He knows my boundaries. I’m not scared of him.”
Her voice is like a song, and the Southern drawl is adorable. I rarely get along with other women, especially in the world I come from, but I can tell this one could very easily grow on me. It’s hard not to like her, there is something that radiates out the moment you meet her. It draws you to her and makes you want to know more.
“As you shouldn’t be,” I agree. “What’s going on downstairs?”
“Party. They have a lot of them.”
“I don’t mind a good party.”
“Are you allowed down there?”
I give her a look. “I do whatever I want.”
I already know that I would not be allowed down there, but I like the idea of ruffling a few feathers. I’m not going make my stay here easy on them, of course. No way. I like a bit of heated drama.
She grins. “I do love drama. Come on, then. You can meet Myla. I think you’ll like her. Actually, I know you will. You’re basically the same person.”
I doubt that, but I’ll agree to anything to get out of this room and feel the refreshing coolness of a beer as it slides down my throat.
“Let’s do it.”
Following Bonnie out of the room, we pass a lot of people before making our way into a large open space filled with bikes, pool tables, sofas, and a bar along the back wall. I stare at it, impressed. It’s very much what you would expect to see at a biker club, and it’s almost as if it has been taken right from a movie scene. Topless girls serve men drinks and there are more than one perched on a biker’s lap.
I see a few familiar faces, Venom being one of them. He stares at me with a blank expression, and I make sure to return it with a full scowl. Disgusting vile man he is. Okay, that might be a bit of a stretch, but he had no problem beating into me like I was nothing more than a pathetic dog. I’m not going to be nice to them. Not today, anyway.
“So my man did do that to your face,” Bonnie says, her brows furrowing.
“What makes you say that?”
“I just saw the look you gave Venom, so I’m going to guess that he was probably the one who carried it out, but I know who gives the orders around here, so ...”
She’s smart.
That would be the reporter in her.
“I’ve had worse,” I shrug, glancing over at the bar where Mex is standing.
He’s laughing at something, but the way it lights up his face has me pausing. My heart skips a beat, and I want to beat it mercilessly for such a weak reaction to a man. I can’t seem to make it stop though. The way his face changes ... It’s exceptional.
“He’s fine,” Bonnie says, her eyes on Mex, too.
“He’s a jackass,” I mutter, looking away.
She grins. “Doesn’t mean he’s not fine.”
I can’t help the smile that stretches across his face.
“What did I tell you about talkin’ to her?”
We turn at the gravely male voice and see Western and Colt behind us. Western has his big arms crossed over his chest, and his eyes are on Bonnie. Even though he’s looking at her with anger, there is still a softness in his gaze. He cares about her. Everyone knows that. It isn’t unknown to anyone who lives in this town that she was the one who broke through the barrier when it came to him.
