Chapter Twenty-Eight

The parking lot was filled when they returned to the club. Rory had to maneuver around three motorcycles and three cars before managing to find a spot in the back.

“Something going on?”

Rory saw Jewell put the star in her coat pocket before she grabbed the door latch.

“Looks like they’re going for a ride.”

Climbing out, Rory caught up with Jewell as she approached Rider and Train.

“Jewell, you up for a ride?”

Rory stared enviously at the bike that Rider was sitting on, willing to give his eye teeth for a ride on the badass machine.

“You know it.” Jewell looked around at the bikers. “Where’s Nickel?”

Rider shook his head at her. “You snooze, you lose. The women have called dibs on everyone going. You’ll have to pull your bike out, stay home, or let Rory drive your bike and you take his back.”

“You know I don’t let anyone ride my bike.” Jewell turned to him. “You can wait here. I’ll go get my bike.”

Rory watched Jewell stride off to the back of the factory. Feeling Rider and Train’s gazes on him, he turned back to them.

“How’s it going?” Train asked, getting on his bike.

“Decent. Where do you guys go when you ride?”

“Heading to Jamestown today. We’re meeting Stud at the raceway. He builds bikes and wants to show off a new one he and his brother just finished.”

They were still discussing Stud’s motorcycle when Jewell pulled up next to him.

“You coming?”

Rory frowned. “Where’s your helmet?”

“Rider, you have an extra helmet?”

Rider got off his bike at Jewell’s question, walked to the factory, and came back with a green helmet to give to him before getting back on his bike.

Rory handed Jewell the helmet. “Put it on.”

“I don’t wear a helmet.” She nudged the helmet back to him.

Rory moved closer to the motorcycle, hitting the kill switch.

“What the fuck?” Angry, Jewell had to put her boots on the ground.

“Wear the fucking helmet, or you’re not going.”

Jewell took the helmet with slitted eyes, putting it on. “Satisfied?”

“Yep.” He got on the seat behind her.

“You really getting on with her, as pissed as she is?” Rider called out over the sound of Jewell starting her motorcycle again.

“What can I say? I live for danger,” he wisecracked.

Jewell slowly edged her motorcycle forward when The Last Riders started pulling out. Sliding his hands around her waist, he held on as the speed increased to keep up with the other bikes.

Regretting not asking Rider how far away Jamestown was, he easily held on to her as they rode down the curvy mountain pass then through the town. Not stopping, they headed to the long stretch of road outside of Treepoint.

Enjoying the rush of the wind as they drove, he admired how skillfully Jewell handled her bike. Rory looked over his shoulder to see Rider riding with his wife, and Train riding next to him with Killyama. Both women wore helmets, while the men didn’t. Rory turned back when he saw Rider give him a thumbs-up gesture.

Thirty minutes later, they were driving through another town. Rory was relieved to see they were close to their destination when he saw the Jamestown “Welcome” sign.

Thinking they were going to a normal car racetrack, Rory was surprised to find it was an outdoor dirt track, miles away from Jamestown. His bladder was giving him fits, so he was glad to see a concrete building.

“Please tell me that’s a restroom,” he asked Jewell when she turned off the motor and took off her helmet.

“Yes. Stud had it built because Sex Piston and her friends come to watch sometimes and bring their kids,” Jewell explained.

“That’s my first stop. I’ll catch up to you.”

He got off the bike and made for the outbuilding. Being closer, Knox and Rider beat him inside.

Inside the restroom, Rider and Knox were already standing at the urinals, leaving one in the middle unoccupied. Rory kept his eyes to himself while taking a piss, but when he was zipping himself back up, he “caught” sight of their dicks. He went to the sink as Rider and Knox got behind him in line.

He moved aside to take a paper towel from the dispenser. Rider grabbed a towel also.

“Who did your tattoos?”

He wasn’t the only one who had caught a quick glance.

Rory threw his paper towel away, answering Rider’s question. “A place in Queen City.”

“Colton did it, didn’t he?” Knox asked, reaching for a towel.

Rory looked at them in surprise. “You know Colton?”

Knox nodded. “We’ve gotten a few tattoos from him.”

“How did you meet Colton?”

The two men just gave him blank stares as they left the restroom.

Rory was wise enough not to want to know the reason why The Last Riders didn’t talk about King. He could take it at face value that they were protecting Evie from King’s past, but Rory believed there was another connection they were guarding—Shade’s wife, Lily, who shared the same eye color as King. Rory didn’t want any part of endangering Lily by seeking more information. His life wouldn’t be worth a plug nickel if he made the wrong mistake where Lily was concerned. His father had taught him one lesson before he had died—Hell hath no fury like a pissed-off biker protecting his property.
