“You can’t look at me like that. You promised.”

I turned away to dump my milk in the sink and collect myself. “I promised no such thing. I said I wouldn’t touch you. I never said I wouldn’t look. If you have a problem with me looking at you like you’re a meal for me to devour, maybe you should think twice about looking so appetizing.”

“What?” I paused cleaning the bowl and looked over my shoulder in time to see her look down at herself. “Oh.” She flushed. “Sorry. I-I think didn’t about it.”

Because a T-shirt and panties were how she usually preferred to lounge around the house—to my utter fucking delight and torment.

I shrugged and went back to cleaning the bowl. “It’s only a big deal if you make it one. There’s no part of you I haven’t already seen, touched, and tasted.” I paused and inhaled, my stomach turning at the reminder of how badly I’d fucked up. “We can’t take it back, Atlas. No matter how much we might want to. It’s done. We can only move forward and hope for the best.”

She was quiet for so long that I didn’t think she’d respond—until she did. “I don’t,” she whispered, making me turn to face her and question if I might have misheard her. “I don’t want to take it back.” She looked up at me, and I could see what it cost her to admit the truth. “Not a moment of it.”

I swallowed the lump in my throat and nodded. “Good. Neither do I.”

Atlas closed the gap between us, and I tensed until I noticed the kettle in her hand. Another useless item she made me buy.

After she left me, it was hard to see all the changes she’d made around here and not miss her with every fiber of my being.

I shifted to the side to make room for her at the sink and watched, inhaling her oranges and vanilla scent, as she lifted the small top and filled the kettle with water.

“So, I guess we should speak to someone about a DNA test?” she asked after she was done. Her nervous gaze met mine as she chewed her lip. “I can call around after my classes this morning and book us an appointment?”

She phrased it like a question—almost like she wasn’t sure I would want to since I’d already made my opinion on the matter clear during the drive home.

I didn’t care what Jada said.

There was no way—no fucking way—Atlas came from my nuts.

I was fucked up in many ways, but wanting to fuck my own daughter was not one of them. I had to believe that if Atlas and I were truly bonded by blood, something in me would have sensed it, known it, and would have kept me from ever being attracted to her in the first place.

Even now.

It was a struggle not to nudge her thong aside and replace the string with my tongue. Instead, I gripped the edge of the sink tighter to keep from reaching out for her.

I cleared my throat and said, “That’s what’s up.”

“Okay.” She moved over to the stove and set the kettle on one of the grates before switching the burner on. “In the meantime, I guess I should put on some pants, huh?”

I smirked. “Don’t bother on my account.”

Smiling, Atlas left the kitchen anyway, and I watched that fat ass jiggle with each step.

Definitely not my damn kid.

And I’d give whatever DNA was necessary to prove it.

I was still standing there thinking when Atlas’s tea kettle started whistling minutes later.

I moved over to the stove and turned the burner off without even thinking about it. I then grabbed the mug she set out and began making her chamomile tea the way I knew she liked—honey, milk, and a little ground cinnamon—the way I’d seen her make it a hundred times from watching her like she’d disappear if I took my eyes off of her for even a second.

Once I finished, I carried the steaming mug upstairs with me and entered the master bedroom that was now Atlas’s. At least until we got this shit straightened out, and I could go back to sleeping next to her.

I set the tea down on the nightstand, then turned to leave so I could start getting ready for work when the bathroom door opened and steam poured out.

Atlas stepped into the bedroom, naked and dripping water everywhere.

“Oh.” She froze in the doorway, her lips parting in shock at seeing me standing in my own bedroom. Her hands flew up to cover her breasts and pussy, even though I’d made a point to keep my focus on her face.

This was so fucking stupid.

Damn Jada and her bullshit claim.

I should have never stuck my dick in that bitch. For so many reasons. I’d always felt guilty about betraying my best friend but had never allowed myself to dwell on it—especially after they’d gotten married, and I assumed they’d live happily-ever-after.
