Make her pregnant.

He’d always considered himself to be as close to honest as possible, and staring into Aria’s eyes, all he wanted to do was make her his. To stake his claim. In the back of his mind, he knew he had a secret, a big one. One that would hurt her if she ever found out.

Don’t hurt her.

Love her.

Show her what everyone else failed to do.

“Grant?”

He slammed his lips down on hers, making love to her, prolonging the pleasure, not wanting to give up for even a moment. He was so close to his peak, but he wanted her to come. Pulling away, he held himself deep within her but reached between them and began to stroke her clit, drawing out her pleasure. She gasped his name.

Aria didn’t make him wait long as she came, screaming his name.

Grant followed her seconds later, filling her with more of his cum, hoping soon he’d have an answer if he’d made her pregnant.

“Damn, that sounds epic,” Lidia said.

Aria chuckled.

Thanksgiving had been a week ago, but between work, the gym, and dividing her time with Grant, she hadn’t been able to catch up with Lidia.

She bit into her sandwich and chuckled to herself. “It was pretty great.”

“Has the wicked witch been in touch?” Lidia asked.

“No, she hasn’t.” Aria shrugged. “Let’s face it, she never is.”

“That’s true. Joan Taylor is known for loving the perfect princess of a daughter.” Lidia rolled her eyes.

“Enough about my Thanksgiving, what about yours?”

“How about we talk about your slashed tires as well?” Lidia asked.

Aria sighed. “There’s nothing to tell. My car is ready to be picked up today. That’s where I’m going after work.” She shrugged. “Grant called Dylan, but he checked the security cameras in town, and it didn’t catch anything. No one saw anything suspicious.”

“But they were slashed?”

“Yep.” Aria hadn’t admitted to anyone that she felt a little uneasy about that piece of information.

“Aria, I see that look in your eye,” Lidia said.

“Look? What look?”

“The one that says you’re trying to be a big girl. You don’t need to be a big girl. You’re freaked out, aren’t you?”

“No, of course not.” She tried to scoff and pretend she was totally fine, but that was a big fat lie.

“Has anyone ever told you you’re a terrible liar?”

She stuck her tongue out. “I’m not a terrible liar.”

“Are you going to tell Grant that you’re freaked out?”

“It’s nothing.”

“No, Aria, it’s not nothing.” Lidia slammed her palm down on the counter. “Don’t ever for a second think it’s nothing. You’re scared. Your feelings matter.”

“I know they matter.”

“Do you?” Lidia asked. “Because you have a way of saying one thing with your lips and your eyes tell another tale. You’re not always happy, are you?”

Aria shrugged. “There’s nothing that can be done.”

“You’re dating one of the Chaos and Carnage hotties.”

“He’s not a member. Well, he is, but he’s not. Ugh, it’s complicated.” The door to the veterinary practice opened and Aria was so thankful for the reprieve when it came to her friend. She smiled only to be a little surprised to see her sister, Isabella, step through the door.

“Wow,” Lidia said.

Isabella smiled.

“Hello.”

“Did you get a pet?” Lidia asked.

Isabella frowned. “A pet?”

“You know, this is a veterinary practice?”

“Do you have a pet here?” Isabella asked.

“No, I don’t need one. I have a long-standing friendship with the receptionist.”

“And I have a close relationship called ‘sister,’” Isabella said.

“What’s going on?” Aria asked. Her sister never, ever came to see her. Not during the day, not at work, never.

“I was … I was wondering, I’m going shopping this weekend. I need some new clothes. This baby is growing fast, and I was hoping you’d like to come,” Isabella said.

“You’re inviting me shopping?”

Isabella nodded.

Aria turned to Lidia with a frown.

Lidia pinched herself. “Nope, we’re not dreaming.”

“What about Mom?” Aria asked.

“I haven’t invited her. I just wanted it to be the two of us.”

“I’m sorry about what Grant did at dinner—”

“Don’t be,” Isabella said. “He was amazing. Do you even know why Michael insisted on us going to a restaurant?”

Aria shook her head but decided to take a guess anyway. “He didn’t want to taste Mom’s food.”

“That was a big problem for him, but he was so tired of her constantly going on about diets. He didn’t want me to follow her strict regime. I’m pregnant and we want to enjoy that, but he also hated the way she treated you.” Isabella rubbed at her temple. “I have never been so ashamed in my life. I never stood up to her. Never told her to shut up. All those dinners. Even after we left home, I never told her enough was enough. Michael couldn’t stand it. He hated having a full plate and seeing you only allowed to eat vegetables and then with limited gravy as well. That’s why he arranged the restaurant and Grant, well, he put us all to shame.”
