He managed not to laugh again, but it was close. “I guess if we can’t make a house fall on her, then this is second best.”
“I agree.” And I was glad to see he wasn’t pouting any longer. “And if you really want to have fun, we can tell every relative a different story.”
That had his eyes going cartoon-level wide, and I could see his little side gleefully peeking out. “Really?”
“Oh yes, we’ll tell one that I’m helping with hanging the paintings and another that we’re talking about your art career and another that I’m explaining how the gallery side of the art business works.” His giggle made me grin as the idea sounded more and more fun. “There are really endless options. I could be showing you around the charity since I’m actually on the board where your grandmother bought me.”
The giggles went into full-on belly laughs.
“Yes.” It took him a second to breathe, but his enthusiastic nod said he liked finding a new way to fuck with his family. “Let’s do that.”
“We’ll have to tell another that your grandmother wanted me to introduce you around socially. What else…?” After a moment, I had a wicked thought. “Do you have any relatives we should hint to that we met on a dirty dating app? Something scandalous that they’ll probably have to look up to figure out?”
His mouth fell open, but after a moment, he grinned and his eyes were dancing with delight. “Oh, Daddy, you’re terrible.”
Since that seemed to be a good thing, I just grinned. “And this way, even if you do call me Daddy or Sir or anything remotely close, no one will have any idea if we’re still just fucking with them.”
His blush had me chuckling, which made him groan. “I’m going to be good, Daddy. No Daddying or Sirring or anything like that. I’m not going to be little and I’m going to be very boring when we’re not fucking with my relatives.”
He was so cute.
And even with his best intentions, he wasn’t going to be able to do it without some practice. But luckily, he had a very smart and slightly devious Daddy.
“I have a way I think we can help you remember to call me Gray.” The wicked grin I was wearing seemed to make him nervous…he was so smart.
I could see he wanted to ask, but he quickly looked down at the table and grabbed the lo mein I knew he liked. “Thank you for dinner, Daddy.”
Chuckling, I tried to tame my grin. “You’re welcome, baby. Did you have a productive day?”
He chattered away as we ate, sometimes telling me about work and sometimes asking me questions about my week. Time flew by and soon we were stuffed, but as we got closer to being done, he started pushing around the food on his plate and spending more time squirming than was reasonable for even little Camden.
When we were right at the point where I was going to ask him what the problem was, he took a deep breath and sat up straighter. “Daddy, would you like to come see what I’ve been working on?”
Oh.
That explained the wiggling and the nerves.
“Are you ready for that?” When he immediately nodded, I leaned back in my seat and gave him the Daddy stare that usually had him confessing every sin he could think of. “Honestly, are you ready for that or do you think you should be ready for that?”
Those were two very different things even if Camden didn’t always see it that way.
His pout came out for a split second as little Camden seemed to want to stomp around, but he pulled it back before I could say anything. “I trust you, Daddy.”
“Baby, come here.” Ignoring the mess for the time being as I stood, I grabbed the last of my glass of ice water and took my dramatic cutie’s hand to lead him over to the couch.
When he was all settled on my lap and my glass was on the end table, I wrapped my arms around him. “I know you trust me or you wouldn’t have shown me your little side or asked me to go battle your family with you.”
That got a giggle out of him and he curled into me as his drama faded. “That’s very true.”
“That does not mean you have to share everything about yourself with me yet. If we take time getting there, I understand.” Kissing his head, I kept a tight hold on him and gave him a long hug that had him melting into me.
After a while, he kissed my neck and sighed. “You give the best hugs, Daddy.”
“Thank you, baby.” Taking his words as a sign he was ready to try again, I slowly relaxed my hold until I was stroking his back. “So, let’s try this again. Are you sure?”
