“Um, what is that?”
He unzipped it slowly, nervously and turned to me as the silky white fabric was revealed. “It’s for you.”
“It’s a wedding dress!” This man, so sweet and so considerate. “You bought me a wedding dress?”
“No. I had a wedding dress made for you. Don’t you recognize it?”
The more I took in the beaded bodice, the flowing layers of tulle and silk, I did recognize it. It was a dress I had drawn when Lena and I were playing one day. The little girl had drawn her version of what her wedding dress would look like, complete with a cotton candy skirt, and she had begged me to draw my own. “You didn’t.”
He nodded. “I did. I told you Lucy that I want to be the one to help you make all your dreams come true. Even your dream wedding.”
I sighed. “I’ve already got the groom of my dreams so what else do I need?”
“A wedding date. And to put that ring on your finger.” He frowned and nodded towards the velvet box that rested in my palm.
I laughed and dramatically plucked the ring from its cushion and slid it onto my finger. “Looks nice. Big and sparkly.” I looked up at him through my lashes and squealed. “We’re getting married!”
“You’re mine Lucy,” he growled and knelt onto the bed. “Mine.”
“Forever and ever,” I promised with my whole heart. “I love you Dante Rush.”
“And I am so in love with you, Lucy Lions.”
He kissed me and we spent the morning getting started on our very own happy ever after.
