“It is.”

“Adae wants to use Jade as a weapon. Forget about me and hide her.”

“I could never forget about you.” I backed up and gestured to the sorcerers. “Can you open the door?”

Nodding, the sorcerers went to each side of the door.

Their fire balls remained hovering in the air.

Azar edged several feet back. “Who are these people? I smell fairy magic.”

“They are my people.”

The sorcerers raised their hands in the air and then waved them.

A second later, the door glowed orange, lighting up the dark hallway. The cold air grew hotter, smelling like burning cinnamon. Steam rose and swirled along the bars.

Azar backed up some more.

Suddenly, the door exploded in a spray of orange sparks.

I covered my face with my arms, blocking some of it. Bits singed my skin, but I didn’t care.

There was a flurry of motion, and then Azar burst out and gathered me in his huge arms. “Fatou.”

Still gripping my sword, I wrapped my arms around his neck. “How could you think I would ever let you die here?”

“Because I told you to save your daughter.”

“I did.” I kissed his cheek and then the other. “And now I will save you.”

“Damn crazy fairy. You were to stay away.”

“I missed your lips.”

“Did you now?” Azar pressed his mouth against mine, searing my entire body into a kiss that reached deep down into the depths of my soul.

Our mouths melted together and our bodies became one. My mind went blank.

Time stood still as a spark of magic erupted between us, sending ripples of pleasure through my body and an electric current of heat between my thighs.

I could feel our hearts beating in unison.

And this moment told me exactly why I had to save him. Not one moment away from him, did I truly allow myself to utter the words in my head or say the fact out aloud.

But I knew. . . why I returned.

It wasn’t just because he had helped save Jade.

It wasn’t about doing what was right.

It was love.

The love I had for him.

The love that he had sparked inside of me.

In this moment, I fell into his kiss. It was a floating explosion. A wisp of a cloud glittering with sunlight. The shimmer of a magic spell. It was the mixture of a thousand wonders, a hundred troubles, fifty desires, and ten hours of confused longing.

It was magical.

It was nothing.

It was everything.

And it was all mine.

He was mine.

A dark voice spoke from the shadows. “Welcome back, Fatou.”

Chapter 25

You and Me. . .Forever

Fatou

I knew that voice.

My body went cold.

Fast, I left Azar’s arms.

Adae stepped out of the shadows. The black leather mask covered his nose and mouth. His gold eyes glinted. His pale white skin shimmered.

Tonight, his long black hair was unbraided and outlined his face.

He wore a black cloak with red lines swirling at the bottom. The thin fabric flowed and swayed around his body with each step.

Adae stopped ten feet in front of us. “Where is Jade?”

I sneered. “You will never get her again.”

“Unfortunately, your daughter now belongs to me.”

“My husband’s debt was a lie. I know the truth.”

A dark chuckle left Adae. “You know nothing.”

“I know that you will die today.”

Adae shook his head. “Fatou, I hoped that you would come for Azar, but I was not sure. Could a tainted fairy truly fall in love with an ancient demon?”

Azar got in front of me and raised Soul-Breaker in the air. “Don’t even think about touching Fatou or her daughter.”

To my surprise, shock hit Adae’s face. “What?!”

A dark growl left Azar.

“How did you mend your sword?” Adae’s hands glowed silver. “That is impossible.”

“Nothing is impossible.”

“I destroyed it with a magic that you could never understand, demon.”

Azar slashed the air with Soul-Breaker. “And it was repaired with a magic that you could never attain again.”

Adae leaned his head to the side. “What do you mean?”

Azar stepped forward. “Zoe, get Fatou out of here.”

I pointed my sword at Zoe. “Don’t even think about it.”

“Fatou, leave.” Azar raised the sword higher. The blade glowed bright, illuminating the entire hallway. I couldn’t remember it being this bright before.

Then, the carved ruins on the blade glowed, but instead of red, they shimmered silvery blue.

Does it have more power? How?

Adae stared at the weapon and edged back. “It. . .it is different.”

The air ran cold, making my skin shiver.

A warrior whispered on my right, “Princess, more have entered.”

I glanced behind me.

At least twenty sorcerers entered, donned in long crimson hooded robes. Their magic stank of blood. Their faces were hidden. Each had on a necklace with a different colored stone dangling from the chains.

Together, they raised their hands in the air. Crackling spheres of electric flames sparked inches above their fingers.

Showing no fear, my fire sorcerers materialized enormous fire balls that glowed white and sizzled in the air.

Azar frowned. “Zoe can still save you and—”
