You’re welcome, Little girl.

She knew he’d waited to be safe to answer. That’s so Daddy.

Chapter Three

Two women rapped on the big glass window the next morning. Recognizing the older woman, Jordi smiled and unlocked the door. “Hi, Louisa. You couldn’t stay away, huh?”

“Hi, Jordi. Those mirrored stations look amazing,” Louisa complimented. “I had a feeling when you said you’d design them yourself that we’d end up with something incredible, but those are fantastic!”

“I’m glad you like them. I was just testing out the lighting,” Jordi said.

“I can’t wait to see the final result!” the younger woman exclaimed before extending her hand to Jordi. “Hi, I’m Kiki, one of the hairdressers. I came to scope out a station.”

“Hi, Kiki. I’m Jordi.”

“You did not come to see what it looked like in here,” Louisa protested with her hands on her hips. “Someone is addicted to that cupcake bakery. It’s going to be dangerous working here.”

“Fudge Crunch is the bomb,” Kiki stated firmly.

“I like that one,” Jordi admitted. “But I tried Caramel Drizzle last night. It tops that one in flavor.”

“Take that back. It does not,” Kiki countered in mock protest.

“You two are just making me hungry,” Louisa remarked. “I heard you had a question for me?”

“Yes. Thanks for coming over.”

Jordi led them to a storage area. “I can put doors on these shelves or not. It looks neater to have everything hidden, but it’s easier to grab supplies if you don’t have to stop and open a door each time. I had the idea to put doors on the first two set of cabinets. Clients can see those from the salon, but the others…”

“Leave them off,” Kiki said emphatically.

“I think you have your answer. I’ll run it past the owner since she’s paying for everything, but that would be my choice, too,” Louisa confided. “I’ll send a text this afternoon. I like the way you think. Having a female contractor was a very smart idea. Our brains just work differently.”

“Amen,” Kiki echoed.

Jordi watched Kiki rub her bottom lightly with one hand. The look on her face was a combination of ouch and yum. She looks like she’s been spanked. Spanked? Is she Little, too? How many of us are there?

“Jordi? Are you with us?” Louisa asked before glancing at Kiki. “I bet she’s thinking of something else that’s going to make our lives easier.”

Tearing herself away from her thoughts, Jordi said quickly, “I’m always trying to make everyone’s life easier. That keeps me in business. One more question. The design calls for towels to be in lower cabinets on the floor. Would it be easier if those cabinets were raised?”

“Up is better! My back will complain if I keep having to lean over four hundred times a day to get towels from the lowest shelf,” Kiki declared.

“I agree. I’ll add that one to my list to check on but that will help with cleaning, too. So it sounds like a win-win situation.” Louisa made some notes in her phone. “Anything else?”

“No, those were the two I’d thought of. Feel free to look around. Be careful, there’s a lot of equipment and supplies,” Jordi warned.

The women walked around admiring different features Jordi had included in the design as she continued to work. A few minutes later, she noticed Louisa ruffling through a bunch of papers in a file that must have come from her large purse. The two women pored over them and then looked back at Jordi.

“Is there a problem?” Jordi asked, trying to appear unruffled while her entire body was in panic mode. Please let everything be okay!

“I just noticed it looks like you’re setting up the plumbing for the shampoo bowls to be here. We moved them toward the rear of the store. The new chairs the owner picked out are too large to fit in this space,” Louisa said hesitantly.

“Let me get my file,” Jordi said, trying to keep calm. A change like that would cost a ton in both money and supplies. She couldn’t have forgotten, could she?

Returning with her own thick file, she ruffled through the pages. “What date is the page you’re looking at?”

Louisa recited the information and Jordi found it easily. “Got it. I seem to remember that something else canceled that decision to move the shampoo chairs back there. Let me look.”

Forcing herself not to panic or rush, Jordi thumbed through the pages. Come on! Please! She backed up a few sheets and found two stuck together. “Here it is. Three days after that, I reported that the plumbing could go through that section but would have to be external as that is a weight-bearing wall that couldn’t be further drilled through.”

Louisa searched for that page and nodded. “I’ve got it. There’s a follow-up question from the owner a few hours later asking if the placement of the sinks could be widened in the original planned location to accommodate the larger chairs. It was approved by you, so I’m sure you’re already on that.”
