“Oh, I wouldn’t impose…” she began and snapped her mouth closed at the stern look he gave her.

Watch out! Daddy alert!

Where did that come from? She’d been reading too many of those books. Daddies didn’t really exist, did they? Jordi had run his use of Little girl over in her head for hours before deciding he must have said it simply because she was smaller than him. Like anyone wouldn’t be smaller than him.

Pulling her thoughts together, Jordi waved the card and put it in her back pocket. “Got it. Thanks.”

“Any time. Dive into a cupcake. I can’t wait to see if you love them as much as I do,” Callen urged.

Trying to use manners and be neat, Jordi peeled back the wrapper and picked up her fork as he watched. She slid the tines through the rich frosting drizzled with caramel and into the dense moist cake. Damn. Popping it into her mouth, she closed her eyes in ecstasy at the incredible flavor.

“I know, right?” Callen said, taking his wrapper off completely and lifting the cupcake to his mouth to take an immense bite.

Half the cupcake just disappeared!

“Mmm, these are so good. It’s the caramel that really sets them apart. Ellie makes it herself. Not that chemical-flavored stuff you get at the grocery store.”

“You know your caramel,” she observed, trying to hide her smile.

“After you’ve jinxed someone, you’re not allowed to smirk at them for at least an hour,” he advised.

“That’s like a rule?” she asked.

“Not one of the majorly important ones,” he admitted.

“Are you a Daddy?” burst from her lips. Immediately, she felt her face heat, and she jumped to her feet. How had she just asked that?

His hand wrapped gently but firmly around her upper arm, keeping her from running away. “I am. You know that just as I know you’re a Little girl. My Little, if I’m right.”

Jordi sank back to sit in her chair. “You think I’m your Little girl?”

“I do. Something told me that the first time I saw you. Why do you think I came to deliver your order myself? I needed to see you again.”

The hand wrapped around her arm loosened, and his thumb caressed her skin. She shivered from the sensation. That feels way too good.

“This is a lot to take in.”

“Have a bite of cupcake and just let things happen. I promise I’m a good guy.”

“I’ll vouch for you being a good guy,” Ellie said, startling them.

Callen dropped his hand as he turned to look at the baker. Jordi missed it instantly.

“I will say sometimes he’s a smelly guy when he and Davis from Fitness Haven get into a sprint competition.”

“Oh, you work out at the gym. That’s how you found Little Cakes,” Jordi said, fitting the bits of information together.

“I do. How did you discover the bakery?” Callen asked.

“I fixed some shelving in Design Magic for Gemma. I’d missed dinner and came in here for an energy boost,” Jordi admitted.

“She’s tried a different cupcake each time. I haven’t hooked her on one flavor yet,” Ellie shared.

“They’re all so good. How do you know what the best is if you don’t try everything?”

“What do you think of Caramel Drizzle?” Ellie probed.

“It’s the best yet. There’s something about the caramel…” Jordi peeked over at Callen. When he winked at her, she grinned back.

“I’ll leave you two alone. Wave if you need anything,” Ellie urged as she drifted away, cleaning tables and straightening the shop.

Silence fell over their table. It was easy and comfortable. Jordi took another bite of her cupcake to give herself time to enjoy the feeling of being with him.

The shrill tone of Callen’s phone made her jump. He excused himself and answered, talking in short monosyllables that ended with “I’ll be right there.”

“Sorry, there’s a problem at the shop. Will you call my number so I’ll have yours in my phone?” he requested, reaching out to run his hand down her arm in a caress that reassured her he was totally into her. “We need to coordinate our schedules so we can get together.”

“Okay,” she promised.

Callen stood. With a wink, he popped the rest of his cupcake into his mouth and jogged out of the bakery.

She watched him go and tried not to stare. My Daddy is hot!

Instantly her brain went to work trying to convince her that somehow she’d misunderstood their conversation or that he couldn’t really be interested in her. Were there trolls that pretended they were Daddies?

Of course there are. I’ll be careful.

Jordi pulled the card out of her pocket and punched in the number. It rang twice and that voice answered.

“Thank you, Jordi.”

“Thank you for the cupcake.”

Feeling awkward, she disconnected the call and took another bite of the delicious cupcake in front of her. Her phone buzzed a short time later and she read the message on the screen.
