A smile pulls at her lips just as Riley glances up here, making her cheeks flush the brightest shade of pink. “You really think so?” she questions.
“Hell yeah,” Arizona says, leaning around me again. “I don’t want to make things awkward, and I’m only telling you this because it’s necessary for the decision-making process.” Ari pauses just a moment as Zoe’s brows furrow, certain she’s about to drop some kind of bomb on her little love bubble with Riley. “The guy can fuck, like really fucking fuck. Like blow your fucking mind kind of fuck. Plus, his dick … Goddamn, it’s huge and pierced. So whether you want to be with him or not, do yourself a favor and take a ride on that thing because Riley knows exactly what he’s doing.”
Her jaw drops and her lips slowly pull into an excited grin, her eyes telling me exactly what we need to know. Riley is a done deal. If my string of compliments didn’t seal the deal, then Ari sure as hell just did.
The game is ticking close to full-time, and as the crowd settles down, watching the two teams get back into formation, Arizona shoots to her feet, her voice ringing out loud and proud. “YOU’RE DOING GREAT, JAX. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.”
The crowd roars with laughter as Jax’s head snaps up. He flies to his feet, whipping around to stare up at Ari in the stands, his eyes expressing exactly how he feels. She’s in trouble, but knowing Ari, it’s the kind of trouble that’ll get her panties wet. “COME AND SAY THAT SHIT TO MY FACE, BITCH.”
She laughs and shakes her head, but Jax isn’t having it and starts storming toward the stands, bypassing the stairs to climb right up and over the railing.
“Oh, fuck.” Ari squeals, knowing he’s about to let her have it right here in front of the whole of Bradford, and she takes off like a lightning bolt through the stands, darting to the stairs and flying down them.
Jax follows her movements, watching every step like a tiger ready to pounce, and the moment her feet hit the ground running, he drops from the stands, landing in a low crouch before taking off after her.
Her squeal echoes through the field, but her short little legs have nothing on Jax’s size and speed. He catches her in no time, launching at her as his arms close around her waist. They both go flying, but Jax breaks their fall with his arms, always keeping her safe.
He says something only she can hear and there’s an intense moment between them before she finally reaches up and grabs his face. She plasters her lips to his, kissing him deeply as he holds her. The whole crowd cheers for them, everyone but Coach Wyld, who’s bitching at Jax to get his shit together.
“ABOUT FUCKING TIME,” Logan hollers from the field, making Coach Wyld whip around and bitch him out too.
The boys get back into position, focusing on the game just as the whistle blows. We’re up by four, but it’s anyone’s game, and with only a few minutes left on the clock, it’s intense. So fucking intense Jax and Ari stop making out on the ground to watch with wide eyes.
Chanel stands with her squad, their pom-poms not even moving as they remain glued to the game, while the girls and I get on our feet, gripping the railing with bated breath. The crowd cheers and roars with every step as the ball shifts up and down the field.
The clock reaches sixty seconds and the countdown is on, the teams battling it out as though their whole lives depend on it. Though I suppose for some of these guys, this game might be one of the biggest achievements in their lives.
The boys run, their eyes sharp as they look from left to right, aware of every last player on the field. Coach Wyld’s face is beet red, yelling orders from the sidelines as Jax quickly joins in, demanding they run harder, play faster, and be the fucking best.
Hillcrest gets the ball and takes off at a sprint, half of the grandstand losing their minds while my heart races faster than it’s ever raced before. They pass the ball from player to player with amazing footwork, evading our defense, but they’re not better than my guys. A moment later, the Hillcrest linebacker narrowly evades a tackle and passes the ball, not clocking Riley until it’s too fucking late. He shoots through the center, leisurely collecting the ball in his arms as though picking a daisy on a Sunday stroll.
Riley doesn’t hesitate, whipping around and storming back up the field. He’s too far away to risk making a break for it, but his teammates are right there, ready and waiting to have his back. He passes the ball down the line, handing it off to Hudson with a perfect pass, effortlessly dodging a tackle. Hudson storms ahead, gaining another ten yards before passing it along just as a Hillcrest player slams him into the ground, making the whole crowd cringe.
