“You know you can talk to me about anything, right?” Jem asked softly. “Anything. I’ve told you that before. Today’s no different.”

Tessa nodded.

“We’re family, Tess. Not just Fury family, but Chris, me, you and Dyna are a family unit, too.”

Her damn eyes were stinging again and she rarely ever cried. Was she having a mental breakdown?

Probably.

“Where is he?”

“Who? Trip?”

No, her brother was the last person she wanted to see right now. “Easy.”

“Judge took him back to the farm.”

He went back to the farm without even checking on her first?

Maybe that was the biggest sign of all.

Chapter Fourteen

Easy groaned as he stiffly made his way up the steps. Everything hurt. He swore even his eyelashes did, too. It hurt to blink, to talk, to breathe, to even think.

He was not looking forward to this “emergency” executive meeting that was being held solely in his honor.

He fucked up. No question about it.

It had been a risk he knew he might have to pay for.

Today that payment was coming due.

Before Judge dragged him from the hospital yesterday morning, Easy had demanded to see Tessa. That demand fell on deaf ears. He was told he had no say over what happened to him or Tessa from there on out. He never felt so fucking powerless in his goddamn life except during his four years in prison.

When the sergeant at arms escorted him down the hospital corridor, Judge had paused by a somewhat private waiting room. Easy was surprised with how packed it was. Not with the families of other patients, but with his own brothers.

That also meant everyone now knew about him and Tessa. The secret was no longer that.

Trip stared at him from across the room as he leaned against the wall with arms crossed over his chest and his black ball cap pulled low. Unfortunately, Stella wasn’t there to help keep the man calm. She most likely stayed home with Rush.

He also spotted Sig without Red.

When Easy scanned the room, he noticed none of the ol’ ladies were there. But Cage sat sprawled in one of the chairs with his daughter asleep on his chest. That could mean Jemma was somewhere in the hospital.

“Jem with Tessa?” Easy called out to him.

Whether Cage answered or not, he didn’t know because from the corner of his eye he saw Trip push off the wall and head in his direction.

Easy was pretty sure Trip had wanted to give him a beatdown when he had come into the exam room earlier but, for once, was keeping his shit wrapped tight. Most likely because they were in a hospital where there were too many witnesses and a few security guards. Even from across the room, Easy could see the president’s jaw still popping and his fingers still curled into his palms as he skirted the occupied chairs.

Yeah, the man was struggling to keep from totally losing his shit.

It was probably the reason as soon as Trip said, “Glad you lived through that crash, ‘cause now I get to kill you myself,” he had spun on his boots and walked out.

Trip used the heavy bag in the shed-turned-gym on a regular basis. His Marine buddy and Dirty Angel, Slade, had come up to teach him and Sig how to box to help relieve their anger when their tempers were flaring.

Easy had seen how hard Trip could hit that fucking bag. He had witnessed the man’s skill on the speed bag, too.

He had hoped in the ten minutes between Trip walking out of his curtained area and now, Tessa’s brother had calmed down a little.

Apparently he hadn’t. If anything, as Trip approached, Easy saw his life flash before his eyes. He survived that fucking crash but now, for a split second, he wished he hadn’t.

“You two could’ve fuckin’ died. Or had been so fucked up you woulda wished you were dead.” Trip growled, going toe to toe with him and locking his hard gaze with Easy’s. “This was not the way I wanted to find out you were fuckin’ my sister. If you weren’t fuckin’ injured right now, I’d kick your fuckin’ ass right where you stand. You know how shit works in this club. This ain’t it.” Like he always did as a coping mechanism, Trip ripped off his ball cap and drove his fingers through his hair.

Easy held Trip’s gaze head-on. He would nut-up and not avoid any resulting conflict. He wouldn’t try to weasel out of what he had coming to him. And short of death, he wouldn’t fight whatever it was. Nope, he’d take Trip’s decision on handling this betrayal like a fucking man.

“Tonight you were lucky, but your luck just fuckin’ ran out.” Without waiting for Easy to respond, the president slapped his hat back on and turned to Judge. “Get him outta here and get him home.” He turned dark, dangerous eyes back to Easy.
