I don’t know why everyone still insists on treating me like a kid. My brother has a mountain of shit on his plate right now is true. That’s why I need to take some of the load off his chest.

They were my parents too, and my little sister. And though I may not have had the same fire in my gut in the beginning as Law, it’s only because I was in shock. The shock had worn off a long time ago, now I wanted revenge just as much as my big brother did.

I didn’t bother saying shit to Diego about what was going through my head. The men’s first loyalty was to my brother as it should be, as was mine. But there was one other person I knew who would back me on this play.

I found him trying to make time with his new wife who was evading him as she laughed. “Travis leave the poor girl alone you letch, we’ve got work.”

“Dammit cuz, I was this close.”

“Hey Suzette, how’s it going?” I kissed her cheek before Travis the Neanderthal tried to break my neck.

“I’m good Kyle, I’m trying to get back to Melissa’s but your cousin’s playing octopus man.” He finally let her go after a mini tonsil war that gave me ideas about finding my own woman for some alone time, but later.

“What’s on your mind cuz? You’ve got that look.”

“What look, what are you freaks talking about anyway? First Diego now you.”

“Uh-huh, what is it that you and Diego were up to?” I told him about the out of town crew that had been spotted and the whispers that were floating around as to why they were here, and who brought them.

“Is that dumb fuck trying to come after my girl, or is he after Law? Fuck am I saying, either way he’s done.”

“So you’re with me then? We need to go after these guys. Law doesn’t need to deal with any more shit right now.”

“Are we sure that that’s why they’re here? Who brought the Intel?”

“Trent passed it off to Diego, but we can have Chaz and the boys check shit out if you’re not sure.”

“Nah, Trent wouldn’t say it unless he was sure. Damn, there’s way too much shit going on in our little corner these days. We can’t let all of this come to a head at once it’ll be a cluster fuck. We both know Law has tunnel vision, so it’s up to us to have his back. Let’s go somewhere where there’s no danger of the wrong ears overhearing this shit and running back to him. Because I’m sure he would try to stop us.”

And that’s exactly why I was going behind his back on this one. I love my brother too much to watch him be picked apart by all these little pockets of fuckery that keep cropping up.

Before the murders my brother was one of the coolest people I knew. He was laid back, smart, and was always good for a laugh. I can’t remember the last time I heard my brother laugh, or see him smile a genuine smile.

Since Dana came he’s been a lot better, but nothing like he was before. I don’t think he will ever be that person again, but at least I can take some of the load off of his shoulders. I know he would never ask because he felt he had to protect me, but while he was protecting me, I’m going to do my best to have his back.

We found a quiet spot and got down to it. I knew I could count on Travis, because of everyone here, we knew my brother best. The three of us had gotten in and out of some scrapes together over the years, and we knew how to have each other’s back.

The two of them were older and had always been the ones I looked up to most after my dad. Damn, I still felt raw pain every time I thought of the man who’d been such a huge part of my life until he was taken from me.

“So what are you thinking Kyle?” Travis’ voice brought me back to the problem at hand.

“I say we put a small crew together and go take care of this. We have eyes on them, we know which Motel they’re holed up in. I say we get in and get out with no one being the wiser.”

“Sounds good, but if we do this, we have to make sure it doesn’t come back. We don’t want any fuck-ups because then we’d be more hindrance than help. What were you thinking? A hit, or just a warning salvo?”

“Law wouldn’t like it if we offed them just like that Travis, you know he has that ethics thing a mile wide.”
