A smirk teased his lips. “I’m assuming this is where you tell me that banks aren’t safe at all and you’ve broken into hundreds.”
“I wouldn’t say hundreds. Maybe a couple of dozen. They’re mostly safe, but unless you have something special you’re looking for, it’s really only money in there. And money is so…common.”
A low chuckle escaped Alexei and he kissed the corner of Soren’s mouth. He turned his head, trying to stretch the kiss longer, but Alexei pulled away again. “You’re such an adorable snowflake. But you were saying banks are predictable. Why the Louvre?”
Soren shrugged. “Can you think of any place more secure? Top-notch security system, crack security team, and no one is looking for the hard drive there.”
“So, you stashed the hard drive in the Louvre, where no one would look. Isn’t it going to be hard to get it out again?”
“Maybe, but it would be a hell of a lot harder to get it after the museum has closed. That’s why we have to wait until it opens.”
“You’re insane.”
Joy and excitement bubbled up in Soren’s chest. Yes, maybe his life was in great danger, and the life he’d built was potentially falling apart around him. He was even beginning to believe that his buyer might have betrayed him, but at that moment, he couldn’t get himself to care. Alexei was looking at him with an enormous grin on his face. The rest could wait for tomorrow.
“A little. It helps when you’re a cat burglar. Do you know what else helps?”
“What?”
“Sex.” He nodded, trying to maintain a serious expression. “It clears the clutter of thoughts from my brain. I’ll be able to better strategize tomorrow’s recovery of the hard drive.”
Alexei heaved a heavy sigh. “Then I guess I’ll just have to fuck your brains out.”
Chapter 11
Alexei smashed his mouth over Soren’s, getting lost in the taste of him. He didn’t want to think anymore. He didn’t want to worry over who was going to try to kill Soren next. And there would be another person. They would keep coming until Alexei managed to kill all assassins everywhere, destroyed the hard drive, or killed the person who kept issuing these stupid contracts.
But none of that mattered right now because Soren tasted like joy, and the strong hands caressing all of his skin felt like heaven. There had never been anyone in his life who made him feel this way. He’d thought if he ever found someone he wanted to see more than once—or dare he even say, date—it would be one lie after another. It wasn’t as if he could tell someone that he made a living at killing people. That wasn’t done.
But he had no interest in lying to someone he supposedly cared for. Something meaningful couldn’t be built on a foundation of lies, fabrications, and half-truths.
With Soren, there was none of that.
Okay, maybe a little. He hadn’t come right out and admitted he was an assassin when he’d approached him at the bar. But that was just sex. There had been no intention of seeing him again. That first night, they’d both known the score.
And yes, he might have sort of tried to kill Soren a tiny bit. But he’d saved him from death twice. That totally outnumbered the times he’d attempted to kill him, so that put him solidly in the plus column.
Things felt different tonight. Secrets were aired. They were working together. Soren trusted him. That was fucking big. Huge.
This time, the kisses tasted sweeter. Every touch of Soren’s fingers as they danced down his spine felt as if he were caressing Alexei’s soul. When they were together, he was complete. Accepted. Soren never commented on the fact that he wore makeup or that he was too thin or too short. Soren looked at him as though he was exactly as he should be. He didn’t need to be more or less. He just was, and Alexei couldn’t imagine there being any better feeling in the world.
“Why does it feel like it’s been days since I last kissed you?” Soren’s voice rumbled up his throat and vibrated in Alexei’s mind as he licked along the shell of Soren’s ear.
“It has been. The last time we kissed like this was yesterday evening. You slept, and it’s now after midnight the next day.”
Soren hummed and captured his mouth again for a brief kiss. “We shouldn’t wait so long again. Bad for my health.”
Alexei laughed into Soren’s mouth. He shoved both of his hands into Soren’s thick, dark hair, wrapping his fingers in it to hold his head captive as he thrust his tongue deep. He wanted to taste all of him, learn all of him. Soren moaned and allowed him to dominate his mouth, handing all of himself over completely.
The hands on his back slid down to grasp his ass, pulling him in tighter. The motion caused his hard cock to rub against Soren’s, and they cried out in unison. More. Needed a whole lot more of that or something very similar.
