“At some point, Cat? Seriously?” I shrug.
“I mean I would have written something naming you as the father so that if I died, they would contact you. If I was arrested and had to have it in prison, they would contact you so you could take custody. So I mean eventually you would have known.” I feel like shit as soon as it leaves my mouth, but hey, what do I have to lose at this point.
“Wow,” he says, grinding his jaw once again. I can see the hurt in his eyes, and it makes me feel small, unworthy. “So that is what I mean to you, Cat. Just in case-ship?” Really? He is such a drama king. I roll my eyes at his attempt at a word, but he is right. That is how I chose to deal with this. He takes a deep breath and runs his hands through his hair. “You know what, now is not the time for this. We will discuss this once I get you to safety.”
“Safety?” He looks at me like I have lost my mind.
“You seriously didn’t think you would kill Ruslan and that would be it, did you? I mean you had to have thought through the fact that they are going to come for you, Cat. The entire organization.” Shit. He’s partially right. I didn’t think past killing him since he was my mission from the moment I figured out it was him.
“You’re right. But there is no way I am going to hide like a scared little girl. They started this and I am going to finish it.” I mean what is he thinking?
“Cat, do you hear yourself? You have someone else’s life in your hands now. Someone who didn’t ask to be brought into this situation. Everything that happens to you, happens to our baby, Catriona. You have to realize that.” And then he drops the bomb. I mean damn, he dropped an atomic bomb on me, and he still looks like a sexy God. Gah. I should not be thinking about that right now. He is right though. I have to think differently.
“So what are you proposing?” He smiles knowing he has won. For now.
“You come with me to my family's island. It is not in my name and not associated with me.”
“And then what?”
“How about we talk about it once we are there.” He places his hand on my stomach and looks at me. He bends down towards my mouth and whispers. “I love you, baby. Both of you.” He kisses me, slowly and chastely, but it has the same effect. It fills me with warmth and leaves the illusion I have something inside of me other than ice. I place my hand on top of his which is still on my stomach and nod my head.
“Fine. I will come with you. For now.” Leave me alone, I’m a bitch right now okay. Can’t have him thinking he has won indefinitely.
“Thank you baby. Thank you.” I just hope I don't regret this because something tells me there is a lot I don't know.

CALLUM
“You are out of your mind if you think I am going to stay here while you run off playing hero. What am I, barefoot and pregnant now?” She has been repeating the same thing to me for the last two hours ever since I told her my plan.
A while back, I was a part of a rescue mission of some U.S. Diplomats. We were shadowed by three mercenaries named Axel, Diezal and their Colonel. We became buddies of sorts and when I need a blacked-out mission completed, I call them. Well, I called them while we were on the jet and Cat was sleeping in the bedroom.
I told them I needed a complete off the books mission, with no one living from the list. I told the colonel everything. I mean everything. By the time I was done, he and the guys were all in. I sent them their mission, with the names of the Popov’s that I knew for sure where they were. I also threw in Romeo if they can find him. That is their mission. I won’t be joining them. I will be busy doing what I have been doing for the last few months. Damage control.
I made the mistake of telling Cat my plan, which did not include her anywhere but here, and let’s just say she is not happy about it. “Baby, listen. You won't be here alone. You will have guests to entertain.” She crosses her arms and glares at me, and I know I didn’t make it better. All three of the guys are married with children. They know how dangerous this mission is and as such, I offered this island as a safe haven for their wives and children until we return. Hell, we have plenty of space.
