“It was your boss, the man that was just in here, that gunned down the doctor. It was him, Levi. I’m not lying, and I’m not making a mistake. I saw the entire thing. Indi heard it; I saw it.”
“Son of a bitch!” Levi hissed, never once pausing to question Hollister’s statement. “Marsh killed Jusching?” Levi kept a protective arm around Hollister as he pondered the latest development. “I have no idea how to keep us safe. If Marsh is involved, who knows where it stops?”
“You aren’t going to keep him safe,” Indi broke in. “We are. Our team has the resources to protect all of you until we collect enough evidence to crumble their empire.” He looked up, knowing Clay was there. “Call the team. We’ve got to get this place cleaned out and back home before the people involved learn who we are and try to stop us.”
“My thoughts exactly,” Clay answered. Turning to Levi, he asked, “You got any family? If you do, you need to gather them up and get ready to move. I’ll send three guys with you. Right now, I think you are probably in the most dangerous position…well, other than Hollister.”
“No family. I have guns, ammo, and money at my apartment. I should get that stuff, but I don’t want to risk any of your men. Give me about thirty minutes,” Levi said. “Keep Hollister and the boys safe until I can get back. If something happens…promise me you’ll keep them with you until this is resolved…and longer if they need it. If you can’t promise that; I’m taking them with me now.”
Indi stood up and answered, “If you’re only going after guns, ammo, and money, don’t even bother. We’ve got plenty of all those—not worth the risk. Clay, get the guys over here to load up my gear and I’ll call Hawk and request he send in a plane for us.” Indi grinned. “I’m going home and taking new friends with me.”
Clay was already on the phone with the team before Indi finished. A huge smile spread across his face when Indi announced he was going home. Fuck, he was never going to let this man out of his arms again. He’d fucked things up so badly in the beginning and planned to make up for it for the rest of their lives. When he hung up, he said, “Hawk’s pretty pissed with me right now. He might make me ride commercial.”
Indi’s eyebrows scrunched together. “Why’s Hawk mad at you? Did you take too long to lure me back?”
“Yeah, uh, no; it’s not that. He, like me, thought you didn’t know who I was when we slept together. He’s threatened to fire me and then kill me. Oh, and rumor has it that Hawk has a new man in his life. Good news for Hawk but bad news for me—he hated me even more than Hawk for taking advantage of you.”
Indi laughed. “Well, the new guy I can’t really blame because he doesn’t know me. Damn Hawk for not having enough faith in me to tell who you were. Your accent sucked and you waddled around in that suit like I would imagine a penguin would—not your style, huh?”
“Definitely not my style.” He used his fake accent to answer Indi.
Levi frowned. “Dude, that really is bad. Okay, let’s get serious here, guys. This is the FBI we’re talking about. I don’t think we can just jet away on some dude’s private jet and call it safe and finished.”
“Oh, it isn’t finished. Nobody puts my man in danger and gets away with it. Safe? Without a doubt. We have resources. As soon as we are on the plane, you need to send in your resignation. Any affiliation with us could get you in trouble and they might try to force our hands to turn you over to them.”
Levi propped up against the counter. “And would you?”
Clay laughed. “Why, sir, I’d never disobey the law. If they can find you; they can have you.” He winked. “Just trust me when I say they’ll never find you. Safe, Levi. You, Hollister, and the boys will all be safe until we bring these fuckers down.”
“Big promises,” Levi countered, clearly still not completely convinced.
“Big hiding places,” Indi answered for Clay. “Safe hiding places.”
“Well, it looks like I’m unemployed.” Levi hugged Hollister even tighter. “But I’ve done one good thing with my life. I’m going to keep these boys safe.”
“Wheels up in forty-five minutes; we’ve got to get busy,” a stranger said as he waltzed into Indi’s house like he’d been there a hundred times. The rest of the team is packing up our gear. They sent me and Journey over to help with security here.”
Indi gaped in the direction of Roan’s voice. “How in the hell did you get past my security code?”
