“Fiancée?” she breathes as I rub at my forehead. “You’re getting married?”
Cringing, I shrink into the leather of my chair. “Why did you call me, Coral?”
“To thank you. For the hotel.”
“There’s no need to thank me.” I never want to speak to her again, and I won’t after this call. “I’ve authorized the hotel to charge my card, but you need to find somewhere to stay.”
“I will. Just as soon as my parents are home.”
I nod, checking my mirrors and pulling out. “I wish you the best, Coral.” I hang up and put my foot down, heading back to Lusso, and the second I pull through the gates, I hear a horn sounding. I look up at my rearview mirror and see Sam in his Porsche behind me, Drew in the passenger seat.
I park and get out as Sam pulls into the space next to me. “We’re here to save the day,” he declares.
I snort and throw Drew an accusing stare. “Where the fuck were you when I called this morning?” He freezes, the door of Sam’s Porsche half closed, looking between us.
“Why the fuck is everyone so concerned by where I’ve been?” he snaps, slamming the door and storming past me, heading into Lusso.
Call me suspicious, but I get the feeling Drew was somewhere he shouldn’t have been last night. I look at Sam, tilting my head, and he shrugs. “Spoke to Kate?”
“Yes, I’ve spoken to Kate.”
“And?”
We start to tail Drew as Sam considers me for a few moments. “There’s definitely something she’s not telling me.”
“So ask her.”
He laughs. “You think I’m gonna take relationship advice from a man who’s convinced by marrying a woman she could never leave him, no matter what he’s done or what she finds out?”
“I’m marrying her because I love her.”
“I’ve no doubt,” he muses as Drew hits the call button for the elevator blindly, frowning to himself. He doesn’t look his usual self. It’s weird. I look at Sam. He’s a bit off too.
We all get in when the doors open, and I punch in the code. “You know,” Sam says. “I don’t think I’ll have that beer after all.” He steps out, leaving me and Drew in the elevator.
I’m done with this. I look between them but settle my stare on Drew. “Why the fuck did you have to go and put your dick in Kate?”
“Me?” he blurts, his hand indicating to his chest. Then he settles his stare on Sam. “Because he said it was cool.”
“Me?” Sam asks, laughing. “When did the word, I’m cool with you putting your dick in Kate come out of my mouth?”
“When you didn’t oppose my offer to join me at The Manor.”
“You instigated it?” I look at Drew like he’s stupid, because he obviously fucking is, stopping the doors from closing.
“I was trying to help,” Drew says, laughing, his voice high-pitched.
“Well, can I suggest you don’t?”
“Absolutely.”
“And can I suggest you don’t put your dick in Kate again?” Sam adds, pretty much kicking the door open when it tries to close again.
“You can.” Drew sighs. “Mate, I honestly thought one of you would stop the whole thing before it got to anyone’s dick being in anyone. Turns out you’re both stubborn fuckers. On the plus side, though, Kate seemed to have fun.”
Sam launches at Drew, and I quickly get between them before blood is shed, holding Sam back while looking at Drew in warning. “May I now suggest you shut the fuck up?”
“You may.” Drew sighs again, putting his life at risk by putting himself in front of Sam, taking his shoulders. “Mate, she clearly has feelings for you and is clearly trying to hide them. I don’t know what else to say.”
“How about we never mention this ever again?”
“Fine.”
“Fine.”
“Fine,” I add, making it a full house of fines. “Beer?” I ask, stepping back inside the elevator.
Drew joins me and Sam backs up, thumbing over his shoulder. “I think I’ll go meet up with Kate.”
I frown. “But she’s with Ava.”
“And?” He turns and walks off, and I’m quickly going after him. If he can meet up with Kate, then surely it’s acceptable for me to meet up with Ava.
“What about me?” Drew asks. “I don’t want to meet up with anyone.”
“Not even the person who you weren’t supposed to meet up with last night?” I call back.
“Definitely not,” he grunts. I was right, but his expression right now and his response are clear signs that he’s full of regret. Can’t lie, though, I’m really curious. “Fuck this, I’m going to The Manor. You can drop me back at my place so I can get my car.”
“No problem.” I’ll just pop by to see Ava. Make sure she’s okay. She can’t possibly protest that. Hopefully, with Sam there and Kate welcoming him, I might be invited to stay too.
