“I’m torn,” I responded as I nibbled lightly on his lower lip. “Do I just spend the day fucking you, or do I do all those wonderful things you just mentioned?”
He laughed aloud, and captured my lips in another heart stopping kiss. “I’m gonna fuck you until you can’t stand tonight, but today I want to show you off. I want everyone to know you’re mine. I don’t know how long I will be able to do that, so I’m taking that chance today. Anyway, it will give me an opportunity to start making reparations to Aldie for the trauma I put her through.”
I wrinkled my nose. “In all honesty, and it did shock me but I don’t even think she was even affected that much by it. By nature, she is pretty strong and unflappable. She’s been eating everything she can get her hands on since she’s been here.”
He laughed at this news and picked up a chopped kiwi. “Did I ever tell you that my dream was to produce the best alcohol in the world?”
I nodded at the reminder. “You did, two years ago.”
“I think I was inspired from Sebastian, the friend we’re going to visit today. His family has produced wine for more than a century and they have a beautiful vineyard. We grew up together here, so every chance I could find I was running around his place and helping out in the summer. I felt free tending the land, more than I ever could at home, or working in the city. I want that again … someday. A vineyard or even a brewery.”
“I’ll make sure you have that,” I vowed.
He raised his head at my comment, the promise in it, not missed at all. That I’d be there. That I’d stay. No matter what.
I leaned forward and sealed it with a kiss.

The breakfast was delicious, but I could not forget my appetizer and halfway through I went back to it. An hour later, feeling sated and languorous, I was seated on the counter in his bathroom with Levan positioned between my legs.
His jaw was covered with shaving cream and I was working diligently on his stubble.
He wasn’t helping, because he kept staining the tip of my nose with the cream which then I had to keep wiping off.
“Levan!” I scolded.
He only chuckled, which quickly faded when I took the blade and pretended to aim for his hair. He immediately backed away then, his hands in the air in surrender. “Okay, okay,” he laughed. “I’ll behave.”
I was about to continue when his phone began to ring in the bedroom.
Suddenly, everything changed between us. A tension came into his body and he looked behind to glance at it. “I’ll be right back, babe,” he said, heading towards his room.
A few minutes later, he returned and I knew … something was very wrong. The way he looked at me had changed. His gaze and stance had shifted from completely and blissfully in love, to strained and almost tormented. Somewhere a dam had broken.
“I have to leave for a quick meeting,” he said kissing my forehead in an almost fatherly fashion. Taking the shaver from my hand, he quickly and expertly swiped it along his jaw.
I felt bereft. Again, the outside world had reached into our little magical bubble and was taking him away. I bit my lip as he got to the last piece of unshaved skin. “We’re not going to shower together?” I asked, my voice sounded a tad desperate.
He wiped his face with a face towel. “If I get in that stall with you I’m definitely going to miss my meeting,” he said, with a grin, but we both knew. There was nothing remotely funny about our situation.
I had been looking forward to spending the day just the three of us in town and meeting Sebastian, but that had gone up in smoke after the phone call. I pulled him closer and slipped my tongue into his mouth, kissing him deeply as though it was goodbye. My legs locked around his hips and I found myself unable to let go till he drew away from me.
I hid my face from him for a moment to get myself together and came back up with a forced smile. If he could pretend, so could I. “When will you be back?’
He paused. “In a day or two. I’ll call you and update you.”
“That long? Is the meeting here in Spain?”
He blinked.
I knew instantly. “You have to fly back to New York, don’t you?”
“Yes,” he said softly.
Always, it was the same. I had to wring even the smallest bit of information from him. Aldie knew more than me. I broke free and jumped down to my feet. “I’ll let you get ready quickly then,” I said and exited the bathroom, before I broke into tears.
