Avery tingled all over as her Daddy led her down another aisle where he scanned the blankets until finally picking one up and rubbing it against her cheek. “What do you think of this one?”

She smiled. “I love it. How did you know I would want a pink one?”

He wrapped an arm around her and pulled her against his chest. “Daddies notice everything.” He kissed her nose. “You have several pink items in your bedroom and bathroom. They’re subtle, but I saw them. Plus, the pink nightie and your pretty pink toenails.”

“Oh.” She flushed. He was right. She did have some pink things. Mostly small items and only in her bedroom. She didn’t wear anything pink at work where she needed everyone to see her as tough.

In her private space though she had a variety of pink polishes no one would ever see for her toenails. She also had pink panties and bras she wore when she wasn’t working. Had he seen her pink bath bombs and her toothbrush? Probably.

Avery held the pink blanket as she followed her Daddy down another aisle. He winked as he handed her a set of cute pink rubber pigs that would float and squirt in the tub. He also grabbed a pink elephant that looked like a watering can.

“What’s that for?” she asked.

“Rinsing off your hair without getting soap in your eyes.” He balanced the watering can on top of her pile. “I really think we should have gotten a cart.”

She giggled. “Apparently.”

When they came to the end of the aisle, he found a stack of baskets and picked one up. He held it in front of her so she could release the pile of new toys into the basket.

She kept Weenie in her arms though. “What else do we need?” she asked. She was having fun. She was also relaxing more with every passing moment in her Daddy’s presence. She had no idea how this relationship was going to work out or how the rest of the department was going to react, but she was starting to believe he truly was her Daddy.

He tapped his lips, thinking. “Dishes.” He glanced at the signs hanging above each aisle before nodding in one direction. “This way.”

“Dishes?” She nearly skipped alongside him, feeling Littler than she ever had in her life.

“Yep.” He held the basket with one hand and grabbed onto her fingers with his other. “Here we go.” He stopped in front of several shelves ladened with plastic dishes like the kind toddlers use when they’re learning to hold a fork and eat by themselves.

Avery stared wide-eyed as he scanned the selection. “Pink? Uh… Why do I need these? I have plenty of dishes at home.”

He glanced at her, smiling. “Little girls need all kinds of things to help them feel Little in the evenings or when they have a day off.”

“Oh. I never thought about it.”

He picked up a two-pack of pink sippy cups first. “These?”

She swallowed. “I’ve never used a sippy cup.”

“I bet you’ll like having one when you snuggle in the corner of the couch to watch cartoons. That way you won’t spill.”

She flinched. “How did you know I watch cartoons?” She didn’t have DVDs or anything he might have seen in her house. She usually just watched the cartoon channels when she had a free morning.

He tipped her chin back and gave her a sweet kiss. “I don’t know many Little girls who don’t like cartoons,” he pointed out.

Oh, right.

He grabbed a set of plastic dishes next that came with a pink plate, cup, bowl, fork, and spoon.

“That’s a lot of stuff,” she commented as she stared at the growing pile in the basket.

“It’s just a few things to get us started. We’ll get more later. We can keep all this at your place for now.” He took her hand again. “That should be enough for today. Unless there’s something else you’d like to pick up?”

She shook her head. She hadn’t known she even needed these things. Her head was swimming at the thought of incorporating so many new Little things into her life. Even though she’d had a Daddy before, he hadn’t provided her with toys, or stuffies, or dishes. Mostly he’d just bossed her around and punished her.

She shook the mean, bad Daddy from her head as she let this amazing new Daddy lead her to the checkout.

Five minutes later, they had their packages settled in the back seat of the car before Daddy helped her into her seat and buckled her in. She watched him round the hood, so excited about this new adventure that her feet were bouncing.

As soon as Trace started the engine, his phone buzzed. “Good thing I haven’t started driving yet,” he commented as he pulled the phone from his pocket.

She didn’t want to pry, but she noticed he smiled.
