I pull on sweatpants and a t-shirt and sit on the edge of the bed. Holy moly. I freaking gave my virginity to Justice’s older brother. The temptation to investigate Owen Wild is too strong, and I end up pulling out my computer and typing in his name.

It only takes a few clicks for me to realize my luck just plain old sucks. My one-night stand recently opened The Wild Peach, a freaking brewery, in Silver Spoon Falls. I read on to see he worked as an investment banker for years in New York and Chicago before finally settling in the small Texas town.

Darn it. I can’t believe he lives in the exact town where I’ve decided to open my music school.

Needing a little friendly advice, I dial Maeve’s number. “You do realize it’s freaking seven am in LA, right?” she answers, and I wince.

“Nope. I forgot to check the time.” Oh well, she’ll just have to forgive me. “But I need you to talk me off the ledge.”

“Are you okay?” The sleepiness disappears from her voice, and I hear rustling in the background.

“I’m physically fine, but I kinda-sorta created a nightmare situation.”

“Okay. Let me get my coffee brewing and we can talk this through.” Maeve has been my best friend since we were in diapers. Our parents are in the same rock band, D-ZAM together, and they used to leave Maeve and me with the same nanny when they traveled. “I’m back.” She sighs. “Now that I have my caffeine, tell me all about your nightmare situation.”

“First off, Dan Gray never showed up for our meeting.” I’d been looking for an investor to help me get my music school up off the ground when a friend recommended the former DJ. “Evidently, he decided to take a trip to St. Thomas for his fortieth birthday and forgot all about our meeting,” I grumble.

“You’re fucking kidding. That big asshole.” I know my friend will always have my back.

“Nope.”

“Okay.” Maeve breathes out, and I wait for her bright side. “Look at the bright side.” Bingo. “At least you found out he’s a flaky asshole before you went into business with him.”

“You’re not wrong.” Honestly, I’m not even really that bummed about him standing me up. Last night, sitting in that booth drinking one gin and tonic after another, I had a realization—I want the music school to be mine and mine alone. I don’t want some investor telling me how to do things. “I actually decided to finance the school myself, even if it means draining my savings.”

“You know your parents would help,” Maeve reminds me.

“I refuse to touch anything from them.” I shake my head even though she can’t see me.

“Just keep it in mind.”

“I will, but I don’t think I’ll need it. I’ve been investigating Silver Spoon Falls and the town is filled with billionaires. I’m betting they won’t even blink at the cost of sending their kids to my school.” I might not use my parents’ money to finance the school, but I’m not above using their names to get things done.

“So, you’ve already figured this out on your own. Why are you still stressed?”

I take a deep breath to steady my nerves. “Sit down for this one.”

“I’m sitting. Now, let me have it.”

“I picked up a stranger in a bar last night and slept with him.”

I sit back on the bed while the silence stretches out. After a minute, Maeve finally squeaks. “Please repeat that.”

Now that I’ve got her attention, it’s time for the really shocking news. “I gave my virginity to Justice Wild’s oldest brother, who happens to own a brewery in Silver Spoon Falls.”

“Wha…” My best friend clears her throat. “What the heck?”

“What part of that did you miss?”

“Slow down and explain. You know it takes more than a few sips for my caffeine to kick in enough for me to handle shocks like that.”

“After Dan canceled our meeting, I decided to try out one of the new bars in town. I’m not sure what happened, but I agreed to leave the bar with Owen Wild and the rest is history.”

Maeve cuts in when I pause to take a breath. “Okay. Don’t give me all that ‘the rest is history’ BS. I want a play-by-play. Start at the beginning and don’t leave even the smallest detail out.”

I end up telling my best friend everything except for the really steamy details that belong to me and Owen. “What are you going to do?” she asks once I finish my recount of last night.

“I’m going to fly home and get ready for the last leg of our tour, and then I’m going to pack my things and move to Silver Spoon Falls.” It might be a mistake to move to the small town where my one-night stand lives, but the reasons I chose the small Texas town for my music school are still there.
