“It’s the truth.”
Aaren’s lips tug into a grin. “Sure, it is.” When I hiss from him dabbing iodine on my cut, he murmurs, “Sorry. I’m used to handlings thugs. Delicateness is not my forte.”
His reply thrusts Ghost into the forefront of my mind again, which also grants him my first genuine smile in weeks.
“Hey, I much prefer that than the sad look your eyes are rarely without. How come you hardly smile?”
Recalling an altercation months ago, I murmur, “I’ve not had much incentive.”
“What about him?” He nudges his head to my stomach, slackening my grin. If you didn’t know my circumstances, you wouldn’t know I’m pregnant. My stomach appears more flabby than round, but that doesn’t stop Kirill from announcing to anyone who will listen that I’m pregnant with his son.
When I remain quiet, Aaren negotiates, “Truth for a truth?”
There’s only been one man who has ever seen through my lies, so I jerk up my chin.
“My real name isn’t Aaren.”
I try to act shocked.
Aaren doesn’t buy it.
“It is better than me telling you I’m not Russian.” He chuckles under his breath while waggling his brows.
I wish I could appreciate his humor, but I can’t. My life is not fun.
I am inquisitive, though. “What is your real name?”
He arches a brow, wordlessly announcing I have to tell him a secret before he will disclose any more details.
I have a million lies at the ready, but my heart pulls me in another direction, “Kirill killed his brother.”
I stare at Aaren in shock when he snaps out, “Milo?” His shocked expression augments when I shake my head. “Then who. He doesn’t have any other brothers.” When I curve my brow, giving him the same mocking response he issued me when I tried to interrogate him without paying my dues, he murmurs, “I’m…” His pause doesn’t flood me with the promise that he is telling the truth, but the lack of deceit in his tone has me on the fence. “Grayson. My name is Grayson, but you have to call me Aaren, okay?”
“Okay.” Aware I am digging his hole deeper for every second we spend together alone, I slip off the vanity then pad to the door. “We probably shouldn’t hang out anymore, though. Kirill is getting mad.”
“You don’t need to worry about Kirill. I don’t work for him. He has no say in my time here.”
Just before I reach the door, I pivot to face him. “Then who do you work for?”
I don’t know if I should be relieved when he drops his eyes to my stomach or panicked. “For the man who wants to authenticate Kirill’s claims you want to carry his son.” Realizing he said too much, he lowers his eyes to his shoes before saying, “Have an early night. I’ll tell everyone you passed out from exhaustion.”
“I’m not tired.”
A smile twitches on my lips when he replies, “I didn’t ask if you were.”
He’s as bossy as Ghost.
Well, as Ghost was.
With grief weighing heavily on my chest, I murmur, “Goodnight, Grayson.”
My almost smile lands on his lips before he whispers, “Goodnight, Katie.”

KATIE
“Circular movements, маленький ягненок. You’re not trying to push your clit back inside yourself.”
As my teeth rake my lower lip, I recall more of Ghost’s teachings.
“Now dip your fingers a little bit. You don’t have to push them in deep, but they’ll give your cunt something to cling to while it builds the wave.”
I slide two fingers inside myself before furling the tips. A shudder hits my thighs when I find that sensitive spot that loosens the tight band strangling my chest.
“Don’t stop. It’s meant to feel like that. Naughty, dirty, but oh so fucking good.”
While imagining his hot breath hitting my neck, I use the pad of my palm to stimulate my clit. First contact sends a surge of electricity through my body, reminding me for the first time in months that I’m alive.
“What was that?”
“Nothing,” I reply to the voice in my head. “I didn’t say anything.”
A smile breaks across my face when I recall how angry lying made Ghost and how his fuse was even shorter than his ability to make me come.
One swipe of my clit, and he sent me spiraling over the edge of orgasmic bliss.
I haven’t felt that type of euphoria in months.
“Please,” I beg, needing my memory to last longer than my grief. “I need this.” I need you.
Tears form in my eyes when the faintest whisper hits my ear, “Keep going.”
“Ghost.”
“I’m here, маленький ягненок, but you need to swivel your clit too. Flicking it isn’t enough.”
“Like this?”
I pump my fingers in and out of myself while rolling my thumb over my clit.
“Fuck.” I choke back a sob when my imagination pretends he’s scooting closer for a better look before doubling my efforts. I want to come. I deserve it. “Yesss,” Ghost hisses, his voice right at my ear. “A little deeper, маленький ягненок.”
