Blinking rapidly, hypnotized by the pink lines, I’m frozen in place. The doctor said I couldn’t have any more children. How is this possible?
Two large palms grip my face, forcing me to stare at Rhodes.
“Let me be a part of your life, Rain. Help me get my daughter back and do things a mother should teach a young girl and let me be the father your kids deserve. Have this baby. Here, with me.”
“You don’t know what you’re asking, Rhodes.” There are late nights, breastmilk, shitty diapers.
“I’m asking God for a second chance to be a dad,” he says seriously, and my eyes widen. His sincerity takes over my fear, and I think about our girls playing, and him and his biker buddies attending a softball game, or orientation at preschool.
“I don’t know, I like how things are slow and sweet between us, this would be throwing us into something—”
“I’m in no rush, Rain. I like us just hanging out and being together.” He chuckles, as if the idea of being stuck together isn’t an option. I like that, no urge to marry and tie us down.
“We’re going to need a bigger house,” I mutter, and he laughs pulling me into him.
