“We have to talk,” Saul says, taking a seat.

Carlo remains near the door, wearing an obscenely expensive Armani sweat suit. “Saul has to talk. I’m just here for moral support.”

“You can go if you have somewhere more important to be,” I tell him, not in the mood for this bullshit.

My mind is firmly elsewhere.

“Nah, I’ll stick around. You know I love it when the golden boy of the Rossi Famiglia gets dressed down.”

“Careful,” I say through my teeth.

But Saul holds up his hands to ease the tension. “We’re not here to fight with you, bro. We just want to talk about your plans.”

“You don’t have to worry. I have everything under control.”

“You sure about that?” Carlo asks and starts pacing. “Fuck, I’m hungover right now and I left a rather delightful bit of pussy passed out in my bed, and even though I’m a fucking mess, I can see that you’re in a really bad situation.”

“Carlo’s right,” Saul says, crossing his arms. “I got a call yesterday from Slim Pete over in West Philly. There are rumors you’re losing your grip on the family, and some of the other Capos might be planning a little revolt.”

I sit up straight. This is the first I’ve heard of outright mutiny. I knew the bosses and Capos weren’t happy with my family situation, but I didn’t think it had gotten that bad.

“Do they know about the Rinaldo girl?” I ask, trying to think of the Capos that might be talking to Slim Pete. He’s a good soldier and one of my best salesmen, but he’s not that high up in the ranks. I’m not sure who would confide in that guy.

“Not yet,” Saul confirms.

“But they’ll hear about it soon, you fucker.” Carlo stops pacing and glares. “I can’t believe you don’t have half the fucking muscle out looking for her right now. She’s your damn fiancée, bro. You gotta drag her ass back here.”

“I’m not interested in forcing that girl to marry me. If she wanted this union for her own political reasons, that’s fine, I can build a partnership on that. But imagine being married to a woman that despises you.”

“That won’t be so hard for Carlo,” Saul mutters.

He glares at Saul for a beat, but a smile breaks out. “Yeah, okay, that’s a fair point,” he says. “But I’m not the Don.”

I hold up a hand, seething with annoyance. “I told you both already, I have this under control. I made a proposition to an underling on Saturday and I believe she’s going to accept.”

They both stare at me. Neither of them speaks. Saul finally clears his throat and leans forward. “Sorry, hold on. You, uh, proposed to someone… that works for you?”

I reach out and jab a finger against the phone intercom, buzzing my secretary. “Yes, Mr. Rossi?”

“Stella, would you please bring Maddie to my office?”

There’s a short pause. “Ah, sorry, sir, I don’t know—”

“The office manager, Ms. Sorrento.”

“Right, of course. I’ll bring her in a moment.”

Saul’s rubbing his face. Carlo’s staring at me like I’ve gone insane. I meet their gazes with a smug little grin, enjoying their discomfort.

If they had spent a night with my bella topo, they’d understand why I’m moving forward with this plan.

She was incredible. I’ve had women, plenty of women, but Maddie was something different. Her taste, her smell, everything about her from the way her legs wrapped around my hips to the incredible whimpers that escaped her delicious lips drove me wild with need.

We tasted each other again and again until we were both spent.

And in the morning, she left without saying goodbye.

I don’t know why that bothers me so much. I halfway expected to give her a good breakfast, fuck her one more time, and get her to agree to my proposal before she went home to think things over.

Instead, she woke up first and vanished.

In most circumstances, that would be ideal. I’m not a fan of the next morning small talk. I don’t want to pretend like I give a shit about the pair of tits still in my bed.

With Maddie though, I wanted more. I woke with raging morning wood I had to stroke off in the shower while thinking about her lips wrapped around my shaft, her tongue sucking and licking up and down.

I don’t know what’s the matter with me, but the girl is fascinating.

That or my dick’s got a mind of its own and I am truly screwed here.

After a minute, there’s a knock at the door. Carlo steps aside as it opens and Maddie comes through, looking absolutely mousy, uncomfortable, and stunning as hell.

Wavy hair, full figure, lips like a dream. Her clothes are modest, borderline conservative, and I’m pretty sure she’s covering herself up because she doesn’t want me to stare at her skin and think about what we did together.
