The wild flailing doubles as the reddening of his face deepens.

“What I wanna know, which is when Evans will allow you to speak – not scream – is whose idea was it to put the hit – that I already called off – out on Messer?”

My security guard is tossed a subtle nod to relinquish his hold, granting Gabe to squawk, “You called it off?!”

Twisting my ankle so that the pointed heel slides into his wide-open mouth is promptly followed by a tsking sound. “No.” I drive it towards the back of his throat. “You were given permission to answer my question, not ask your own.” Gagging noises and shakes begin at the same time an amalgamation of spit and blood collect on his chin. “Last chance, Mr. Jung.”

Completely dropping my leg is followed by louder grasps for air.

Sob sounds.

And the smell of piss overwhelming the calming eucalyptus aroma Yavok bought me to help “destress” my hours here.

I don’t think that it’s working, but I love that he thinks about me like that.

Generally, gives enough of a fuck about me to reduce tensions in my environment unlike the man he was momentarily worried about becoming who never did anything other than exacerbate them.

“I-I-It was,” Gabe airily stutters out, “it was m-m-my idea.”

Crossing my ankles occurs in tandem with a finger roll to indicate I want him to precede.

“I…I knew Pri would never just…leave him and runaway with me to really start our lives together as long as he was around. She,” his headshake is slow, almost painful, “loves us both but…for some reason…him…more.”

Could be because he’s a nice guy?

Kind?

Genuinely thoughtful versus manipulatively so.

You know, just…for arguments sake.

“So, I…” he attempts to cover the wet spot on his crotch, “came up with this plan. Secure enough money for us to restart our lives somewhere – probably Greenland because she likes the cold and hates the heat – and arrange for it to look like it was Ken who stole from the company-”

“Naturally, sullying his good character in his wife’s eyes.”

He gradually nods. “And then have someone kill him, but make his death look like a suicide-”

“Caused by the overwhelming weight of betraying the two things that mattered most to him, his job and his wife.”

“Exactly.” Gabe’s shoulders bounce in a shameless fashion. “And I knew Pri wouldn’t wanna stick around the place where he did it or the city or even the job. She’d be a lot more willing to…start over.”

Rolling my eyes can’t be stopped. “God, the things people do for pussy.”

“Love!” He barks at the top of his lungs. “I fucking love her! More than anything! More than fucking life itself!”

I happily hum prior to offering him a vile smirk. “Yeah, we’ll see about that.”

His mouth drops to release a retort, yet nothing is freed courtesy of Evans injecting him in the neck. Watching his frame lifelessly slump over sparks feelings of relief; however, it isn’t until he hits the ground with a resounding thud that reprieve truly sinks in.

I’ve got two men who owe me penance and one familiar, very satisfying way to receive it.

True balance in my life is almost restored and fuck, does that feel absolutely fantastic to say.

Chapter 6

Yavok

Shay Santiago, the daughter of Lust, somehow has three husbands – although to my understanding they’re all married to one another rather than just her – while Remy can barely endure just the one, further proving how vastly different each head of the Synful Syndicate really is.

I’ve come to know the leaders as well as their spouses over the years.

I’ve met them all in various capacities.

Our kids – like the decrees demand – connect and associate and are creating the same relationships with each other that all the current women of Syn built when they were younger.

Do I like all of their children?

No.

Do I understand the reason behind forcing them to be friends in spite of Kat’s occasional resistance?

Yes.

Do I support my wife’s dedication to the organization?

Always.

Afterall, it was the one that granted me a life that I’m willing to fight to the death to keep.

I simply wish Shay would stop eyeing my wife like she wishes she could add Remy to her collection.

You’re not supposed to collect husbands.

They’re people, not playthings.

Albeit, I’m not sure she – of all people – knows the difference.

“Where are men who marry you?” Winding my arm around Remy’s lower back is done at the same time my wife takes the drinkware being offered to her. “Bring or with children?”

Shay pulls her hair to one side of her light latte face on a salacious smile. “Why? Wanna play with one?”

“Net,” can’t leave my mouth fast enough.

“Manners, Mr. Kessler,” my significant other impishly scolds.

“Net, spasibo,” I politely correct. “Am…just…making conversation with special guest of evening.”

“I am special,” Shay states matter-of-factly prior to accepting the flute of bubbly being offered. “As for those that live to make me feel that way…well,” she plucks out one of the red garnishes of her cherry pomegranate champagne, “one is most likely swallowing your bacon wrapped scallops whole, another is most likely plucking away at your glass Steinway, and the last is almost certainly drinking cognac in a position that allows him to keep a watchful eye over them, along with me, because while lust comes naturally, trust does not.”
