His skin tastes better now that he’s my boyfriend. That doesn’t even make sense, but it’s true. Has been for the past month since we first started using that word.

Suddenly, his body jerks and his head turns. I follow his gaze and find Forsyth, jaw dropped as he stares.

His face flushes red. “Oh, hey. I…I was coming… I mean, I was looking for you to see if you wanted me to… I don’t really remember what I was looking for you for.” He chuckles awkwardly.

I’ve never seen Forsyth so beside himself, but the smile on his face suggests he doesn’t exactly find this an abomination.

After confirming our relationship status, Ryan and I agreed not to say anything to the guys. Didn’t see a reason to make a fuss, but apparently our hunger for each other’s bodies did the outing for us.

“I’m gonna…” He doesn’t finish his sentence, just spins around and walks back around the house.

Ryan leans close, snickering against my cheek. “Cat’s out of the bag,” he says, then whispers in my ear, “Guess he’s gonna run and tell Morgan about the naughty things you were doing to me.” It’s hard to even consider what Forsyth’s about to do when all I can think about is how Ryan’s breath tortures my ear, but I try to be serious.

“Is that going to be okay?” I ask.

His forehead creases. “Yeah. Nell’s already hinted at it. And we decided that if they find out, they find out.”

“I know, but it’s one thing just considering it, another when it actually happens.”

He shrugs. “We made it to July. That’s better than I thought we’d do. And Morgan and Forsyth could probably use some work gossip to keep them from being at each other’s throats.”

We share a laugh, then another kiss.

“Mmmm,” Ryan hums into my mouth. “I wanna keep doing this, but I really should find out what Forsyth needed.”

“Okay, but just a little more tongue, and then I’ll be good for the rest of the day.”

“Liar,” he says, knowing damn well that won’t sate my appetite for him, but he gives in anyway, and fuck, I love when he gives in to me.

We get back to work. Turns out Forsyth needed some pesticides for an aphid infestation on the roses. Ryan figured they had some around the shed, but turns out we’re out, so he sends Forsyth and me into town to grab some at the Feed & Seed.

Forsyth is as awkward as I figured I’d be if I’d walked in on my boss making out with another employee. So I try to address it right away. “Sorry about earlier.”

In the driver’s seat, he presses his lips together, then smirks. “Really, none of my business. Just…a…surprise, that’s for sure.”

I chuckle, and there’s a stretch of uncomfortable silence before he adds, “But that was some serious tongue you were giving him there.”

He sneaks a glance my way, and we laugh awkwardly together.

“To be honest, we don’t have a lot of gay guys out here. I mean, there are some, but I guess they don’t feel safe being out. It’s kind of a backwoods place. But wait, you mentioned girlfriends…”

It’s something that had come up in one of our casual, day-to-day conversations. Just chatter, so I’m surprised he was even really listening.

“That mean you’re bi?” he asks. “Or like… You know, it’s none of my business. I shouldn’t even be asking things like this. Please don’t tell Ryan. I don’t want to lose my job.”

“Relax. It’s really not a big deal. Yes, I’ve had to think a lot about it recently, and I figure I am bi. Not something I ever explored or really thought about until I came here.”

He smiles, then turns to me. “That’s pretty cool.”

“Cool?”

“Yeah, just the fact that you’ve done that in this town makes me think that’s cool. I don’t know. Not a lot happens in Renovere, so stuff like that could keep people talking for weeks.”

“Like whatever you thought Morgan said about you?”

The playful expression shifts quickly, and I immediately regret mentioning it. I guess I figured since it’d been a while, he might have calmed down and been willing to discuss it, but now it’s clear that was a shit idea.

“Sorry. Now I’m the one prying.”

“It’s all right. Everyone in town is already on to better gossip anyway. Like I said, they don’t have much to talk about. And when I told Morgan this in confidence, I just wasn’t expecting to overhear it when I went into town. I figured if anyone would respect my right to privacy, it’d be the guy who told me all the shit he’s been through with Skyfore.”

I expect him to drop it, since he’s already been cryptic about whatever Morgan purportedly told others that got him so worked up, but he says, “It was just some embarrassing shit. I was chatting with a girl online and was really into her. But then I was showing her to Morgan on my phone and turned out he recognized the photo. It was some model I was being catfished with. I thought I’d spared myself the humiliation because he’d caught it before I’d shown it to anyone else I’d talked to about her, but not a week later, this guy I went to school with brought it up, so I knew Morgan had to be the one to blab. Not cool.”
