The bald Dom didn’t pay it any attention either. He swished the cane through the air again and took aim at Seline’s bare thighs, which were fully exposed due to the high slit in her black skirt. There was an evil kind of glee in his dark eyes—a look that said he loved inflicting pain and he couldn’t wait to hurt her.

“Now then, girly—let’s get one with this, shall we? Let’s start with a little taste of the cane.”

And with that, he drew back his arm, clearly meaning to hit her as hard as he could. Seline squeezed her eyes shut, trying to ready herself for the pain—trying to brace for the inevitable stinging blow…

But the impact never came. Was the bald Dom teasing her? Waiting until she opened her eyes to hit her?

After a few breathless heartbeats, she couldn’t stand it anymore and dared to crack one eye open. What she saw made both eyes fly open wide.

Nox was standing there behind her attacker. He seemed to have grown to twice his height and his silver eyes had gone blood red. He had the bald Dom’s burly wrist squeezed tight in his metal hand and the look on his face was pure fury.

“You dare,” he said in a low, growling voice. “You dare to hurt my female?”

“Hey, buddy—ease up!” the Dom whined. “She said she wanted to play—this is just part of our scene!”

“Mmm!” Seline exclaimed, shaking her head vigorously. “Mmm-mmm!”

“You’re lying,” Nox informed the bald Dom. “And you will pay for hurting my woman.”

There was a crunching sound, like many small twigs being broken at once, and the Dom howled in pain as the hand attached to the wrist that Nox had just broken suddenly hung limp.

“Hey, man, what the fuck is wrong with you?” he moaned. “It’s part of the scene—just part of the scene!”

At that moment the black cloth that served as the Dungeon’s door was thrown back and a large Bouncer walked in, followed by the couple that had been in the Dungeon earlier.

“That’s him,” the woman said, pointing at the bald Dom, who was moaning and holding his wrist. “And that’s the girl who was saying she didn’t even know him,” she added, nodding at Seline.

“Well, she might not know him, but I sure as hell do,” the Bouncer growled. “How the fuck did you sneak back in here, Joe? You know you’ve been banned for life for pulling shit like this!”

“That man broke my wrist!” the bald Dom whined, nodding at Nox, who still looked enraged.

“He was hurting my female,” Nox growled, glaring down at the smaller human male. “He is fortunate I did not break his neck!”

“I’d say you got off lucky, Joe.” The Bouncer gave Nox an uncertain look as he hustled Seline’s attacker away. The couple went too—casting one last glance at Seline. She wished she could thank them for speaking up for her—but she still had the ball gag in her mouth. And besides, Nox was looking extremely scary.

“Mmm!” she exclaimed as he strode forward and ripped the ball gag off her. “Ow! That hurt!” she gasped.

“You would have been hurt much more if I hadn’t gotten to you in time.” His eyes were still red and his voice had a snarl in it. “Why would you come to a place like this alone? And dressed in this way?”

“I…I can’t—” Seline began but her Protector clearly wasn’t listening—he was unfastening her from the St. Andrew’s Cross with quick, efficient motions.

She started to rub her wrists but Nox didn’t give her the time. In one swift move, he bent down and swung her up over his broad shoulder.

“Hey!” she exclaimed as he ducked through the fabric door of the Dungeon and carried her out into the club. “Hey, Nox—put me down!”

The big Kindred paid no attention whatsoever. He carried her through The Whip slung over his shoulder like a bag of flour and no one dared to say a thing to him.

“Nox! Nox, what are you doing?” Seline demanded, as he marched out into the night and across the street. “Hey stop this—I’m safe now, you can put me down!”

Still, he didn’t answer. She got the uneasy feeling that he was still simmering with fury and that at least some of his anger was directed at her for her rash actions.

At last Nox reached his ship—which he had parked across the street—and opened the door. He carried Seline inside to the middle of the ship—the living area—and finally put her down. Then he loomed over her and gave her an angry glare.

“Explain your actions at once or suffer the consequences,” he growled.

And Seline had a feeling he meant it.

FIFTY-FIVE

SELINE

Seline began to get angry herself. Yes, she was grateful to be rescued, but she didn’t owe the huge warrior an explanation! He was treating her like a naughty child and she wasn’t going to stand for it!
