“Colt, head back inside,” Kim said, suddenly approaching them.

She glared at Colt as he walked by. Prick. She didn’t say the words aloud, but she was so tempted.

“How are you?” Kim asked.

“Fine. I’m fine.” And yeah, those two words were becoming somewhat repetitive.

“How long do you think it will be before you believe what you say?”

“What do you want from me?” Tears filled her eyes and she hated how weak she felt. “Do you expect me to be happy about this? Do you know how this came about? I came home from work to find my dad with simple instructions. Wear the clothes he sends over and be ready. That was it. Oh, and the tiny little detail that he’d found me a husband, as if I even need one.” She pressed her lips together. “I’ve never had anything to do with his world. Yet, I’m right here. I’m about to marry your son. A man who hates me, who freaking hates me. You tell me, on the verge of turning twenty-one years old, that this would be the life you were looking forward to.” She pointed toward the bar. “I can’t even be attacked without being accused of something.”

“Rosalie—”

“No, I just … I don’t want to talk, okay? I just want to be left alone.”

“Then let’s go,” Petal said, coming toward her and sliding her arm through hers. “I’ll take you home.”

Colt threw back the shot of whiskey before following it with a chaser of beer.

“Your mom’s pissed at you. She keeps glaring at you,” Myth said.

He didn’t give a shit. His mother had told him where they were going for a reason, so he went to go and see his virginal bride. It pissed him off to see she was dressed all in black. Bitch. Did she think marrying him was like going to a funeral?

“Don’t look at her.”

“She scares me,” Myth said.

“My mom scares everyone.” Mainly because whoever pissed off Kim had to deal with Warden, and his father was a scary son of a bitch.

He didn’t need to see his mom approach, when Myth, Ox, and Crow all got up and left.

She stood, one arm on the bar, the other on her hip. “Are you happy?”

“You told me where you were going to be. So I went to check everything out.”

“Do you think I don’t know that you blamed her for that guy hitting on her?”

Colt rolled his eyes. “Can we not do this?”

“Do what, Colt? I thought I raised you better than that.”

“Kim,” Warden said, coming toward her and banding an arm around her waist.

“Raised me better to what? To beg at the enemy’s feet? To grovel? Is that what you want me to do? She is the enemy.”

“That girl is innocent,” Kim said.

He couldn’t help it. Throwing his head back, he laughed. “She’s one of them.”

“That girl isn’t. Mark my words, Colt, if you don’t get your head out of your ass, you’re going to ruin something precious.”

“That’s enough, Kim,” Warden said.

She pulled out of Warden’s arms. The whole club had turned to look at them and his mother’s frown gutted him. She was so disappointed.

“Rosalie may be part of Daemon and I know what that man is capable of. I’ve been around her mother and I can tell you now, there’s something about Gabrielle that I can’t quite put my finger on. Something is going on between them that stinks. I can see it and I hope you men figure it out before it’s too late.”

With that, Kim pulled away from Warden, but she didn’t go toward the main corridor that took her to the bedrooms. Kim snapped her fingers giving Myth no choice but to follow her. He hadn’t even married Rosalie and already she was causing them all trouble.

“I know you don’t like what’s happening, Colt, but I need you to pull it together. You need to think of your patch.”

“Over Nancy, you mean?”

Warden’s nostrils flared. “Yes.”

“I’ll do what’s needed for the club.” He would always come through for the club. He swore his life and his loyalty to the patch and he’d make sure anyone who hurt it would suffer.

Rosalie was going to suffer. She would be his wife, but she’d wish they had never met.

Chapter Five

“Do you not want to eat anything?” Petal asked, holding out a piece of fruit.

Rosalie waved her hand in front of her face. “No, if I eat anything I’m going to be sick.”

Petal chuckled. “At least you’d be making him do the whole ‘in sickness and in health’ thing.”

She joined her friend in giggling.

The dress she wore was a little loose. Kim had insisted on calling a seamstress to do the quick repair job. She was more than happy for her mother to do all the necessary stitching but Gabrielle had been too worried about messing it up.
