“Well, that went just about as well as it could have,” Lorraine says, echoing my thoughts. “You poor thing, you were worrying about nothing!” she fusses before coming over to wrap me up in a tight hug.
“Yeah, I kind of guess I was,” I smile with a big exhale. “I was a little overwhelmed, but now, I’m just relieved. That really did go pretty well!”
With one final squeeze, Lorraine pulls away from our embrace and shoots me a smile. “Well, I’m glad things worked out, and you know I’m here for you anytime, girl. But now, I’m going to get going. But remember, I’m on the look-out for a DILF, so if you find any, let me know!”
I giggle.
“Will do. Bye Lori.”
“Bye!” she sings as she heads over to the front door to let herself out. “Love you guys!”
After the door closes, my boyfriend turns to me.
“DILF?” he asks with a questioning look. “What does that mean?”
I shoot him a sly smile.
“Well, you know what MILF is, right? A mom I’d like to fuck? Well, a DILF is the equivalent, except dad instead of mom.”
Realization dawns in his eyes.
“Ah ha. And you’re going to help her find one?”
I sling my arms around his neck.
“Yes, definitely! After all, I found you, so I’ve got the magic touch.”
He chuckles low in his chest.
“And I’m a DILF?”
“Hell yeah!” I sing, leaning in to give him a kiss. “You’re a double DILF because I’ll let you take me front and back.”
He chuckles and asks, “Did you just make that up?”
I nod happily.
“I did, and you love it too.”
He grins.
“I do, and I’m so proud of you, Patty. Thank you for handling that scene with Brian with grace and dignity,” he says, suddenly serious.
I nod.
“Of course, Gary. I want what’s best for your son despite everything that’s happened. You know that.”
“I do,” he replies, his expression somber. But then he swallows and continues. “You treat Brian like he’s one of your own, and because of that, I want to make us into a real family.”
I smile.
“We are a real family,” I whisper. “You know that.”
The handsome man nods.
“Yes, but I want to make our union legal, honey.” My eyes widen as he pulls away from me before sinking to one knee, retrieving a small box from his pocket.
“Gary…?” I gasp.
He looks up, those blue eyes filled with love and adoration.
“Patricia Reston, I don’t remember a time in my life when I was this happy because I was only going through the motions before I met you. I didn’t know it at the time, but I wasn’t truly living until you showed me what it means to open my eyes and seize the day. Now I wake up every morning, filled with excitement over the simplest things, such as cooking breakfast together, enjoying a movie, or watching your tummy grow big with our child inside. You are the woman for me, and anything we do is amazing because I’m doing it with you. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife? Will you put this poor wretch out of his misery and become Mrs. Gary Hickman?”
Tears fill my eyes as I nod.
“Yes, of course,” I whisper. “I would love to marry you.”
With that, my handsome fiancé slides the ring onto my finger before standing up and pulling me in for a kiss. We both stop to admire the diamond for a moment and I sigh as my heart beats with happiness. This is the life I was meant to live and I stare up into my lover’s face with gratitude and joy. But he beats me to it.
“Thank you, Patty,” he breathes before leaning down to give me a kiss. “For everything. I love you and can’t wait to make you my wife.”
“Thank you, Gary,” I whisper in return. “I love you too and can’t wait to become your wife.”
After all, we are truly blessed. We have a son on the road to recovery, and a new baby on the way. Maybe our relationship was illicit at first, but life has a funny way of throwing you curveballs, and now, I can’t wait to spend my forever with this man. Once upon a time, our tryst was too hot to handle, but now, it’s nothing but love.
