All three of their kids were at the sleepover, along with Bethany’s as well, apart from her oldest daughter who had already gone to college.
“I know. I know. We do this every single year, and it’s always fun, but I can’t stop worrying.”
“Trust me, this feels like nothing compared to having a daughter go away to college.”
“Shelby is coming back every holiday, right?”
“Yep, that she is, but come on, college, and yeah, I’m feeling too old right now.” Bethany sighed. “Seems like yesterday it was us thinking about going to college!”
Molly laughed and then gasped as her very own scientist wrapped his arms around her. She had fake scars all over her face, along with cobwebs and mud in her hair. Her face had too much makeup on, and Nate was a scientist with a massive head for a brain.
Each year they always came to this party as a couple. This was their engagement anniversary, it was where she told him she was pregnant with their first child.
There was so much that had happened on Halloween night. This was their celebration.
“I’m stealing away my perfect bride,” Nate said.
He walked her back, heading toward the dance floor.
“You know, this is where I finally won my woman,” Nate said.
Molly laughed and then shook her head. “Nah, I don’t think it was.”
“Oh, yeah, where was it?”
“I think it was back at the auction, where you got your best friend to pay for you, because you didn’t want to be with any other woman. That’s when I won you.”
“Are you happy?” he asked.
“Yes, I am.” She’d been married to him for nearly ten years, they had three beautiful children, two Jack Russell dogs, and a couple of cats. Their house was filled with love and laughter. There was nothing to not love.
Nate had promised her a life she would never forget. He had promised her the world, and he delivered.
