Dante walked into the kitchen, pulling open a drawer, and coming back with a legal pad and pen.
“Alright. What are we getting you?”
“You could literally grab any of the clothes out of my dress…” I started, seeing all three men start to shake their heads at me as I said it. “No?” I asked.
“We can’t go to your house,” Dante said.
“We don’t want there to be any chance of being followed,” Nino clarified. “It’s why we drove around for half an hour before coming here.”
“Oh, right,” I agreed, pretending I hadn’t been half asleep most of the ride. “Okay. Uhm. Well, then, ah…”
“Is Smush still busy?” Nino asked, looking at his brothers.
“Yeah,” Dante said, and there was an interesting bite to his word. I couldn’t help but wonder if he was simply annoyed that he didn’t have someone to do his shopping, or if there was something more to the situation than he was letting on in front of me.
“Then maybe Valley could help,” Nino suggested.
“She’d be breezing in and out of all the boutiques, buying designer shit that would only work for going out on the town.”
“Mom then,” Nino suggested.
“No!” I blurted out, eyes wide, almost shooting off the couch.
“Why not?” Nino asked, brows pinched.
“I just… I don’t want to put your mom out. This is asking a lot.”
“It’s really not,” Nino said. “Mom will be fucking over the moon about it,” he added. “And she’ll be a little more practical than Valley would be. Just give Dante your sizes,” he said, and I did. “And is there anything else? Special blankets, teas, anything personal you want to have while here?”
Him.
That was really all I wanted.
“No, I think that will work,” I told him.
“Okay,” he agreed, but he took the list himself, and jotted a few things down. Presumably, for himself. “We’re just going to talk in the hall for a second,” he told me. “Go explore. But, ah, maybe be careful on the stairs,” he said, giving me an amused smirk.
“I’m not that tipsy,” I insisted.
“Sweetheart,” he said, pressing a kiss to my temple. “You absolutely are.”
With that, the men went out into the hall, and I got to my feet. And, sure, yeah, I maybe swayed for a second as the blood rushed from my head, but once I was moving, I was fine.
To one side of the living room was an entertainment system with a big TV mounted to the wall. In the drawers below was every gaming system I’d ever seen, neatly tucked away. For the kids, I figured, if they had to be taking a little vacation in the safe house. Or, even, some of the guys themselves. To the sides of the TV were seemingly endless bookshelves with tomes from every fiction genre and a ton of non fiction as well.
At least I would have a way to occupy my time if we were here for a while. Sure, the sex was going to eat up nice chunks of the day, but there would need to be recuperating time.
Glancing up, the loft overhanging the entertainment system seemed to be a second little seating area, but also featured a desk with an all-in-one desktop for any work that needed to be done while tucked away.
I made my way through the kitchen, all dark cabinets and gray countertops.
The whole place was a little sleek and modern for my personal taste, but there was no denying it was beautiful. And cost a freaking fortune.
But, I guess, guys in the mafia were always portrayed as being pretty wealthy. I figured that came from real-life examples. Like the Grassi Family.
I breezed into the primary bedroom, finding more floor-to-ceiling windows, a lush king-sized bed, and even a small balcony off the side.
The bathroom on the main floor was twice the size of Nino’s roomy one, featuring an oversized soaking tub and a walk-in shower that could fit six people comfortably with a rainfall shower head in the center, and several others on the side walls.
Since the steps upstairs had open backs, and I was a little tipsy, I went ahead and followed Nino’s advice to stay on the lower level, but I figured there were probably two smaller bedrooms atop the primary one.
And browsing through the closets told me they were prepared for even more people than that because there were a couple of roll-away cots and lots of extra bedding and towels.
There was also a big collection of board games and craft kits—for both adults and children—as well as medical kits and other things like heating pads that made me think a woman must have stocked this place.
The kitchen pantry was stocked as well, and everything was well within its expiration date. I wondered if Nino would cook for me again. If he would fuck me on the counter before he did so.
