“I hardly know you,” he replies, and I don’t know why, but that gets my back up.
“Is that so? You’ve seen me naked I don’t know how many times, but you hardly know me?”
The room goes dead quiet, and I can feel everyone staring at us in surprise. Keaton’s eyes stay steady on my own.
“You’re kidding,” Stella says at last.
“Finally,” Sophie says, letting out a gusty breath. “I don’t have to keep that secret anymore.”
“We need all the dirt,” Maddie puts in.
“I can’t believe you just said that,” Keaton mutters.
“Why? We’re all adults here.” I glance around the room and notice that my brother doesn’t look very amused. “I’m not anyone’s secret.”
“I didn’t say it was a secret.”
I just smile at him, sip my drink, and glance over at Maddie’s boyfriend, Dylan. “It’s your turn, handsome.”
“I think I’d rather watch this show than hit the ball,” he says with a grin. “It’s way more entertaining.”
“Oh, there’s nothing more to see. Keaton and I have a…thing going. That’s all. It’s not a secret. It’s not illicit. It’s consensual fun. Mostly naked, consensual fun.”
“Jesus,” Keaton mutters, making me laugh.
“He’s shy.” I wink at the others and pat Keaton’s shoulder. “It’s okay.”
“I knew they had chemistry,” Liv says again, doing the happy dance in her seat. “I just knew it.”
“We’re really good at matchmaking,” Stella agrees and high-fives Liv.
I don’t bother to remind them that Keaton and I found each other ourselves. They’re having too much fun.
Finally, everyone goes back to eating and playing the game.
“I can’t believe you did that,” Keaton mutters next to me.
“I’m not going to sneak around to be with you,” I reply, keeping my voice soft. “We’re not doing anything wrong, Keaton.”
“I didn’t say we were.”
“Great. We agree, then.” I sip my drink happily.
Suddenly, my brother sits next to Keaton.
Before I can say anything, Keaton just shakes his head.
“Don’t take a swing at me, man. I’m not a jerk who’s playing around with your sister.”
“I should punch you out of principle.” Gray sighs and glances over at me. “But she’s an adult. If you make her cry, I’ll make you bleed.”
“Right.” Keaton takes a pull of his beer. “I figured that much.”
“That was too fun.” I lean my head back against the seat in Keaton’s Bronco and sigh. “I don’t remember the last time I had that much fun.”
“Are you sure you’ve never golfed before?”
I turn my head to smile at him. “I’m very sure. The margaritas were stronger than I expected. I have the nicest little buzz going.”
“I’m glad.”
“I want to see your house. Let’s go there rather than my place.”
He’s suddenly quiet in the dark car as the streetlights zoom past, and I narrow my eyes at him.
“What’s wrong?”
“I don’t usually take girls to my house. It’s nothing personal. I just don’t.”
“Yeah, well, you’re with a woman now, and this woman wants to see where you live.” My voice is firm, leaving no room for argument, and after a few moments, he nods.
“Okay, my house it is.”
Satisfied, I settle back once more and enjoy the quiet as we drive through the city. Before long, we’re headed out of the city.
“I assumed you lived in Seattle.”
“On the outskirts,” he confirms. “Not too far from my parents, if you take some back roads.”
I watch as streetlights become fewer and farther between, and then Keaton turns off the main road onto a dirt driveway.
The house he pulls up to is big. With a sprawling, covered porch and even a tire swing in the front yard, it looks like there should be a big family living here.
“This seems big for one person.”
“It is big,” he confirms. “I bought it for the shop out back. Come on, I’ll show you around.”
It’s dark, but he starts the tour outside. With my hand in his, he leads me around the house to what I assume must be the shop. It’s two stories high, with four big garage doors, and when he leads me in through a small side door and turns on the lights, I let out a low whistle.
“This is really sexy, Keaton.”
His eyes narrow as he takes it all in, as if he’s seeing it for the first time with me. “Yeah, it is.”
I can see why the building is so tall. It’s to accommodate the lifts for the vehicles. There are two in here currently, and he has all kinds of tools, toolboxes, things with hoses and wires, and plenty of things I don’t know anything about.
But I wasn’t lying when I said that it’s sexy as hell, and I plan to have sex in this building one day.
“Now, I want to see the house.”
“It’s far less sexy.” He leads me out, turning off the lights and locking the doors behind us. The walkway is concrete, and when we reach the back door, he opens it without unlocking it.
