“Sophie called,” I say lamely.

“I’m here!” I see a hand go up in the middle of the crowd and wave around. “I’m coming!”

“And if all goes well,” a brunette mutters, “she’ll be saying that again in a few hours.”

I’m not easily embarrassed, and I’m not embarrassed now.

I’d say I’m intrigued.

And mildly turned on.

Sophie jumps up and comes staggering my way.

“Hey, I’m surprised to see you,” she says, making the others laugh.

“Really? Because you called and asked for a ride home.”

“I’m trying to sound nonchalant,” she says in a loud whisper. “So I don’t sound too needy.”

I tuck her hair behind her ear and grin down at her. God, she’s fucking adorable.

“And are you needy, Sophie?”

“Maybe. But I’m not going to tell you that. Also, you’re really hot. Why are you so hot?”

“Just good genes, I guess.”

“Really good,” she agrees.

“Hey, Soph, aren’t you going to introduce us to your friend?”

Sophie’s eyes go wide, and then she turns to the others. “You can see him?”

I’m laughing now, unable to help myself.

“He’s not a figment of your imagination,” Meg says with a chuckle.

“Right. Oh, right,” Sophie replies. “Everyone, this is Ike. He plays football, and he tried to kill me in the park.”

“That’s so romantic,” a blonde says with a deep sigh. “I wish that would happen to me.”

“That’s my cousin, Zoey,” Sophie informs me. “I can’t tell you everyone’s names because you’ll never remember them.”

“I’m Stella,” another blonde says with a grin. “And this gorgeous woman is Olivia. She’s the one getting married.”

“Congratulations,” I say with a nod.

“Stella’s getting married, too!” someone calls out. “But that’s a party for another day.”

“We should go,” Sophie tells me and tries to muscle me back to the door, but she’s so drunk that she’s as weak as a baby bird. “Wow, you’re strong.”

“You’re drunk,” I reply and simply lift her into my arms.

“Awww!” is the collective response from the hoard of women in the room.

“Be nice to my baby,” a woman says and glares at me. “If you hurt her, my husband and all of his brothers will hunt you down.”

“That’s my mommy,” Sophie says with a loopy smile. “Love you, Mom. And you should really be worried about him, not me.”

“Atta girl!” Stella calls out, and I walk to the door that Meg’s holding open for us.

“Have fun,” she says with a wink. “But not too much fun.”

“All the fun,” Sophie says and rests her head on my shoulder. “Bye, Meg.”

I get her out to the truck and buckled in before I circle around to get in beside her. When I glance at the house, the front door is still open, and about a dozen female faces smile out at me.

“Bye!” They wave enthusiastically, and I wave back before driving away.

“Well, that was an experience.”

“Pretty normal for us,” she says and smiles over at me. “Thanks for coming to get me.”

“It’s no trouble at all. And you need to explain what you meant by this being our third date.”

“Well, you picked me up, so it’s technically a date.”

“Okay.”

“And that makes it our third date.”

“Sure, I follow that.”

“And after the third date is when I get to get you naked and have my way with you, and I didn’t want to wait any longer.”

Chapter 7

Sophie

I really need to shut the hell up, but when I’m drunk, I have loose lips. I always have. I overshare way too much.

And right now, the world is starting to spin, and that’s never a good sign.

“How can I be so drunk after only two glasses of mimosas?” I brace my head in my hand, willing the world to stop spinning.

“You don’t usually drink,” he reminds me and reaches over to take the other hand in his, lifts it to his lips, and kisses me.

I sigh in a big, fat swoon and glance his way.

“I didn’t eat a ton either,” I murmur and watch his lips as they pucker again, and he plants them on another part of my hand. “You have really great lips, Isaiah Harrison.”

“Yeah?” His eyes leave the road long enough to glance at me and grin. “Just wait. You’re going to worship my lips before long. Would you like me to take you to your condo? Or to my place?”

“I think we’d better go to your place since it’s closer.”

“Are you starting to feel a little sick?”

“Pssh.” I try to blow off that idea, but the truth is that yes, I am feeling a little nauseous. I do not want to throw up, especially since I called Ike to come get me, and I plan to have the best sex of my life tonight. “Of course not.”

“You might look a little pale, sweetheart.”

I swallow and feel my palms clam up. “I refuse to be sick from two little glasses of champagne. It’s just not going to happen.”
