Spending an afternoon with daddy isn’t going to make this go away and it sure isn’t going to make him feel any better about sending me off to school half way around the country, and Todd’s going to get tired of the BS.

And now I feel even worse about the way I’ve been treating daddy, in my mind anyway. I’ve been mad at the wrong person all this time. It’s not daddy’s fault that I didn’t get to go away to college a year early, it’s these people whoever they are. Well they’re not gonna get away with it.

If my eight-year old sister can get into the thick of this thing to help me achieve my dreams, then I can’t just rest on my laurels. Now where do I start?

“Oh Cierra you’re up. Everything is going as planned. I just sent Colt off to the store to pick up some stuff for the BBQ and your husband went with him so we have a few minutes to ourselves.” I gave her a quick rundown on my progress thus far as I seasoned about thirty pounds of ground beef for my famous burgers.

“He didn’t say anything about overhearing Todd on the phone but I know he heard, and his face was a thundercloud.”

“That’s great, let’s hope he doesn’t go after poor Heather.” That one stopped me for a second. That damn man!

“I don’t think we have anything to worry about there, I already talked him off of her, he’s given me two days. The man is a walking contradiction. He seems to think that he’s the only one who can be opposed to those kids’ relationship. Anyone else even tries and he’s ready to kill.” I shook my head in wonder.

“Watching him is giving me second thoughts about having a daughter, I can only imagine Hank…” She shook her head and rubbed her tummy looking pensive. As well she should. I don’t see where there’s that much difference between her husband and mine, especially when it comes to their families at least.

“I’ve already talked to the sisters, this evening we’re going heavy on the prom and all that. They know to make it sound off-handed so that Colt the dolt won’t pick up on anything.”

Things were coming along more nicely than I’d expected. I just have to keep a straight face and not give anything away like I always do. The plan as we worked it out between us women is to keep him bombarded from all sides, that way he doesn’t have time to sit down and pick everything apart like a puzzle the way he always does.

This time I mean to win one over on him if it’s the last thing I do. I always liked Todd for my girl, but back then that was a mother’s soft heart for her little girl, wanting her to have what she wanted. But after seeing the boy again for the first time in so long I’m even more determined.

That boy is the epitome of Colton Lyon. I don’t know how he did it, and he hasn’t shown that much of himself, but there’s something in his demeanor that tipped me off to the fact that he’s just about the same as my husband. That means that my little girl is going to be loved.

I knew we stood a chance when I realized for a fact that Colt saw those kids asleep on the couch and the boy’s still alive. I’d seen them there the night before when I went to check on Caitie. Although I trust my daughter, she’s a teenager and teens will be teens.

But I wanted to make sure she wouldn’t do anything to mess up the plans I’d set in motion. When I didn’t find her in her room my heart had sunk and when he wasn’t in the guestroom my head had gone in all directions.

I thought they’d ran off together and had gone around the house in a tear, running downstairs to check out front to see if the rental truck was still in the driveway. That’s how I’d come upon them on the couch wrapped around each other. After the thoughts that had just ran through my head this was a way better alternative and so I’d left them alone after covering them with a throw and turning off the television and lights.

Colt saw them when he did his usual weekend morning routine of going around the house and making sure all his kids were where they were supposed to be. That’s something he started doing lately, since Catalina was taken.

I’d say I don’t know why since the place has more security than the pentagon not to mention the men he has stationed around my house like sentinels, but I get it. I don’t ever want to go through that hell again in this lifetime. Colt’s tough but at least he has the good sense to know that he can’t be in two places at once, so he goes the extra mile to ensure our safety.
