“You called me your boyfriend.”

Oh shit. I had. From his response, that was a good thing, and pleasing him had been really fucking easy. Maybe I should do that kind of stuff more often.

“I’m stuck between telling you guys you’re adorable and also really fucking hot.”

I narrowed my gaze at Kai, who held his hands up. “I’m kidding! I just like to give you shit.” He turned to Sebastian. “I like to tease him. It’s fun to get under his skin, but I promise you, your secret is safe with me. If you really want to keep it private, though, maybe no making out in a public place? Wow, usually it’s Declan telling me to be careful about something, not the other way around. Now I get to do that with him! He’s kinda like a dad.”

“I am not,” I argued. We were only eight years apart in age.

When they both laughed, I grumbled and turned to walk away. They laughed louder as I went.

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Sebastian

The bar picked up, and I didn’t get to visit much with Declan after that. Every once in a while he would come over to check on me or chat for a moment, but then he was gone again. I loved that he worked right in the thick of it with his employees. He wasn’t the kind of boss to sit back while they got into the nitty-gritty of it all.

I felt silly the way I watched him. That didn’t stop me from doing it, though.

Kai would drop by every now and again too. I remembered Declan telling me about him earlier, how he worried about Kai sometimes because he was too trusting, and how the younger man often flirted with Declan. It was all in good fun, I could see. Not that I didn’t think Kai would fuck Dec if given the chance, but he really liked to have fun with Declan more than anything else, and Declan needed more fun in his life.

I kept my head down as often as I could, but the thing was, I was getting to the place where I didn’t care if anyone knew that Declan and I were together. If it wasn’t for the fact that I worried about how it would turn his life upside down, I wouldn’t care at all. But I knew it would make things difficult for him, and that was a genuine concern. Declan was quiet and kept to himself. How would he handle being the public boyfriend of Sebastian Cole? Having the paparazzi find out about him, maybe follow him or come into the bar. I couldn’t imagine Declan dealing with that, couldn’t imagine he would want to. How long would it be until it was too much for him and he walked away?

I shook those thoughts from my head, trying not to let them weigh me down. I just wanted to enjoy this. I deserved to enjoy this. He’d called me his boyfriend, and now I was claiming that fucking title like it was my badge of honor.

I enjoyed being out, watching the excitement around me, and hell, almost feeling like a normal person. I was at a bar where my boyfriend worked, and we’d been hit on and his coworker would chat with me. It was all so normal, and my life had felt anything but normal in a long fucking time.

Finally, the bar was starting to slow down. Declan was talking with Kai and one of his other bartenders. Kai nodded at whatever Declan said, then grinned at him. Their gazes shot to me, so I knew I was the topic of discussion. It made me want to thump my chest, declare myself the king of the fucking world because Declan wanted me and had called me his. It had nothing to do with my career or my money. Declan just wanted me for me, and there was nothing like that feeling.

I watched as he made his way over to me. “Let’s get outta here.”

“Okay.”

Declan took my hand and pulled me to my feet. Then he pressed a code into the keypad to let us into the back part of the bar, where the employees went.

I kept my gaze down as we passed another worker, until Declan led me into his office. The second the door was closed, his mouth was on mine. We kissed like we were starving for it, like we would cease to exist if we didn’t feed off each other’s mouths.

“Fuck…I planned to wait until we got home, but I want you so fucking bad,” Declan said, kissing his way down my throat.

My cock was hard, throbbing already behind the fly of my jeans. As if he could read my thoughts, Declan’s hand covered my bulge, his palm rubbing it and making me see stars.
