“Huh?” His thick brows furrowed.
Oh yeah, I wanted to fuck him. Would he be down for some fun? “Four Mondays. You must like it here a lot.”
“I, um…” He started playing with his glass, spinning it around. Somehow he twisted too hard and it tipped over, liquid running down the wood. “Shit. Fuck. Sorry.”
He was adorable, which made me shut down some. It felt personal, and I didn’t like to get close to people.
I grabbed a towel and cleaned it up. His face was bright red, and he was shaking his head as if he couldn’t believe he’d done that.
“I’m sorry. I’m usually not this big of an idiot. I’m an actor, for Christ’s sake. I—fuck, I didn’t want to tell you that.”
“Ninety percent of the people in Los Angeles County want to be actors. That’s nothing new.” I made him another drink, then walked away, putting some space between us. He was too sweet. Spending the night with him would be a big fucking mistake.
He watched me as I made drinks for a small group that had come in. I checked on him a few times, and he kept it to the one rum and Coke, not going for a second, unless I counted the spilled one.
When I was close to him again, wiping down the counter for the third time, he asked, “What’s your name? I mean, you don’t have to tell me. I’m just curious.” He rolled his eyes, and I could tell he was doing it at himself.
“Declan,” I answered against my better judgment.
I turned to walk away, and he said, “Sebastian Cole. In case you were curious.”
He licked his lips, and I knew I was fucked. There was no way I wouldn’t at least try to shoot my shot. It had been a while, so I might as well enjoy an orgasm or two with someone. “You got plans tonight, Sebastian Cole?” I asked softly because again, I was pretty sure he wasn’t out.
Sebastian’s pupils flared. He took a deep breath like he was gathering his courage and said, “Hopefully I do now.” Fuck yes. “I don’t have a place we can go…”
“I don’t live too far from here, and my roommate isn’t home tonight.” I added the second part for him. He seemed nervous, and I wanted to make sure he knew we’d be alone.
“Yeah, okay.”
“I can get out of here in about thirty minutes.” Thank fuck I didn’t close tonight. From the way he grinned at me, I figured he probably knew my schedule, at least on Mondays. Maybe that’s why he came in when he did. I should maybe be worried he was a stalker.
I finished my shift, ran into the back to put some things away, but when I came back out, Sebastian was gone. Well, hell, that sucked. I’d been in the mood to get laid, but maybe it was better this way. He seemed new to this, and I wondered if maybe he’d be clingy.
I left without saying goodbye to my coworkers. The second I walked out, I saw Sebastian leaning against the wall with his head down. His gaze snapped up to me. Now that I knew he was there, I couldn’t deny him. I cursed under my breath, then headed over to him.
“I haven’t…done this before. I freaked out a bit.”
“Maybe that should tell you something. Maybe picking up men you don’t know in a bar isn’t right for you. Maybe you’re a relationship kinda guy. I’m not. This would just be a fuck to me.” It probably made me a dick, but I wanted to be sure he knew the score up front. The last thing I wanted was to lead him on.
“I’m not looking for a relationship either. With my career, I need to be discreet, so this will work for me.”
There went that pink again. It even colored his ears. “Jesus, you’re sexy when you blush.”
“I don’t know why I do it. I’m not like this with anything else in my life. Like I said, I’m an actor—which is the second time I’ve unintentionally told you that. I wanted to hook up with a guy but didn’t want to just look for some rando on an app. That’s actually what I was supposed to do the first night I ended up here, but I flaked out and didn’t meet him. I went in for a drink, and you were there. You talked about being gay, and you’re really fucking hot, so I just kept coming back.”
There was something so earnest about him, something so honest and pure, which you didn’t see a whole lot around here. Everyone was jaded, or at least they became that way, but maybe he hadn’t been in the LA area for very long. He was probably from a small town somewhere and came to California hoping to make it big. He’d meet assholes who would take advantage of him, and eventually, it would ruin that glow in his eyes. The thought of that made my gut clench. LA was good at chewing people up and spitting them out, and damn, I didn’t want that to happen to Sebastian.
