He spins to face me and glares at me. I return his glare. I feel like when we were younger and used to fight over video games and who had next.

We’re better than this. That’s what’s so frustrating and annoying. It’s not like we don’t want the same thing.

“Ny happened. She’s the one not ready.”

“G, she doesn’t know things are different.”

“She wasn’t going to listen to me either. I have a reputation to uphold. I have a family to run. My place of business is not the place to air my shit out. I had to let it go,” he bellows.

I bite my tongue before I tell him, fuck your reputation and your place of business. I can’t allow my emotions to get the best of me.

However, watching him pull his phone to look through it like we’re not talking almost makes me lose my shit. I bite down on my temper, knowing it’s not going to get me anywhere.

“So how long are we going to do this?”

“I don’t know, Geppetto. This one isn’t on me. I have other things to handle. Ny’s temper is taking a back seat for now.”

I growl. He lifts his head from his phone he’s been looking down at and lifts a brow. If looks could kill, they’d be collecting both our corpses.

“Give me a fucking break. I need the Silvio situation handled. ASAP. Where are we with Asia and Nadine?”

“Their plane comes in today. I’m leaving in an hour to meet them and give them their orders.”

He moves to the sink and pulls a glass down to fill it. His back muscles bunch with tension. He’s not the only one getting pissed off by the second.

“No, send Ny. I need you with me. As a matter of fact, tell her to wake Carleen for me. I’m restoring the balance around here. Ny is back. I’m going to fully play my hand. She doesn’t need to be in my bed to do what I need from her.”

“Do you hear yourself?”

“Do you understand who the fuck I am?”

“Yeah, I know who you are. I just don’t like who you’re becoming. Ny used to come first.”

He tosses the glass he just emptied into the sink, shattering it. “She still does,” he bellows.

“You’re not acting like it.”

He grabs the edge of the sink, his back heaving. I roll my eyes. In a fight, we’re pretty much evenly matched. Although I’m not looking for this to come to blows.

“You have been here this entire time. You know what I know. You have been living in my head and know what I need to do. Where in all of that have you forgotten that I can’t stop the world to run after Ny?

“I love that woman more than life itself. I’m doing all I can to have her by my side and hand her the world. If she’s too stubborn to listen to me tell her that, what else would you have me do?

“Because I’m not going to keep bending backward for either of you, not when I’m carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders, and you’re both supposed to be my team to ease that.”

He turns and looks me in the eyes. His frustration is clearly written on his face. “I’m not fighting myself. You two will fall in line, or I will cut you both off like cancer.

“Enough, Jace. Your fight isn’t with me and mine isn’t with you. Fuck, I don’t want to fight with her, but what I can’t do is this while I’m at war with them. Enough.”

I hold back my next words. He’s right. I’ve done all I can here with him. Ny is the one I need to get on the same page.

“I’ll call her and have her take care of the pickup. G, I’m not trying to add to your plate. We’ve done so much wrong and it’s time we fix it.”

“I know, Jace, I know. I promised you I’d fix it. Have I ever broken a promise to you?”

“No, never.”

“Then know I’m going to get her back. I’ll bring her home.”

Nyla

I sit on the tarmac straddling Jace’s bike while I watch the two other bikes being unloaded from the flatbed. Asia and Nadine are two dolls I like, but they’re not cut out to be master dolls.

They came to us too damaged. They’re both volatile and unpredictable. They lack discipline and leadership qualities. However, they’re two valuable soldiers.

Total opposites in every way, they still managed to bond with each other and become real-life versions of Harley Quinn. Gio calls for them for the crazy shit they do. His way of sending a message.

This Silvio Jr. definitely pissed him off. I can tell you now his murder is going to be ugly.

“Can you sign here for me?” one of the transport guys asks, holding out a clipboard.
