“Love you, too, princess,” he says before kissing me again. I have a feeling we won’t be getting something to eat for at least another hour.
Epilogue
James
Seven years later…
I keep my eyes on my computer pretending I don’t see my wife and three sons sneaking into my office, Nerf guns in hand, all dressing in camouflage gear. The boys all got them for Christmas and have been obsessed with them. It wasn't a few weeks later that my wife had one.
They’re always having Nerf battles now. The castle really is a good place for it. Lots of room to run around. Even my own guards randomly show up with Nerf guns and join in. I reach under my desk, grabbing the Nerf gun I have stored there. I have to fight a laugh when I see my wife trying to stay low, but her newly formed baby bump doesn’t help her out in the least.
Our sons are army crawling on their bellies. I notice that even their faces are painted. When my wife turns a little, I see two black lines painted under her eyes as well. This has to be one of the most adorable things I’ve ever seen. But this isn't surprising. Our boys are rough and tumble, and their mom is supermom and gets down and dirty with them.
Kate was made to be a mom. From the moment she found out she was having our first child she glowed and loved every second of it. I was just happy I was finally able to get her pregnant with a girl. I promised her this time it would be a girl. I know I can’t control everything, but I got on my knees and prayed it would happen for her. If it hadn't I would have kept putting babies inside of her until it did happen.
But it did. Not only one baby girl but two. She cried for an hour when they told her she was having twin girls. I didn't know someone could cry happy tears like that, but she had. I was just thankful that I had three boys to keep an eye on my girls. They were already protective of their mom, so I knew they’d likely take it to a whole new level when it came to the girls.
When the boys pop up, Nerf bullets start flying and I get nailed a few times. My wife tries to hop up but isn’t very quick. I pull out my own nerf gun, watching the boys’ eyes go wide at the sight of mine. It carries over two hundred Nerf bullets, top of the line shit. They scream and take off running, but I manage to nail them a few times.
My wife screams, but I’m on her before she can get to the door. I turn her, pinning her to it. “You being a bad girl?” I ask her.
She bites her lip and shakes her head. “Whose team are you on?” I ask, raising an eyebrow. She narrows her eyes at me. I drop my mouth to hers, kissing her long and deep as I pull the Nerf gun from out of her hand.
“Cheater,” she says against my mouth.
I chuckle. “Be a good girl and I’ll give it back.” I challenge.
“Fine, I’ll be on your team.” She fakes a pout that I know is trying to hide her smile. I give her back her Nerf gun.
“I want that one.” She eyes mine. I throw back my head and laugh, handing it over. Still always giving her whatever she wants. Some things never change. She beams up at me.
“No running,” I tell her.
“Fine.” She stomps one of her feet, looking even more adorable.
“Let’s go get our boys,” I say, giving her another kiss before pulling opening my office door, knowing I’m the luckiest man in the whole world.
