“Yes. It took longer than we’d hoped. Asher and his team worked out the schematics while I concentrated on recalibration. We had to bring in the orbital crew as well, so I got to see George too.”

Sam smiled. “I miss having the whole geek squad down the street.”

I did too, I mused, spooning up a bite of oatmeal goodness. George had moved in with his boyfriend last January, and Asher had moved when I did in the spring. That left Holden and Tommy with a couple of rather unlikely roommates who were simply too sporty to become Script Club members. We tried to include them with mixed results and instead decided to rotate hosting duties so as not to offend the new jocks in residence. Which reminded me…

“You’ll see everyone on Sunday. We’re hosting the next Script Club meeting here. You don’t mind, do you?”

“This is your house too, babe. Whatever you say goes.”

I grinned, tilting my head. “Anything I say?”

“Yes,” he drawled cautiously. “What do you have in mind?”

“Christmas trees at the wedding. Six-to-nine-foot-tall noble firs, all lights, no balls. Thoughts?”

Sam narrowed his eyes. “No balls?”

“No balls,” I repeated.

Sam snickered, then leaned in to kiss my cheek, slipping his hand between my thighs to cup my package. “These are the only balls I care about.”

I barked a laugh. “Gosh, that’s romantic.”

“Let me try again.” He nuzzled my neck and whispered in my ear, “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

I closed my eyes briefly in a moment of silent thanks to whatever forces in the universe had brought this man into my life. To be accepted as I was, to be loved and cherished with all my quirks and eccentricities was a gift I didn’t take lightly. I looked forward to growing old with this man…sharing holidays, birthdays, and every day in between.

Marking time wasn’t my goal. I wanted to enjoy every moment. Sure, I’d still make my lists. After all, organization was crucial. However, I made my lists now with the understanding that life could change in an instant. It was best to stay present.

With one exception, if I may…

It was never too early to make a holiday list.
